>> Budimex SA engaged over 5000 own employees and subcontractors for this year’s Safety Week
>> The company involved 99 institutions and partners in the organization of the events
>> As part of the TB, approx. 214 activities and shows
Meetings, first aid and rescue demonstrations, visits to construction sites – as every year, Budimex SA was actively involved in the Safety Week initiative promoting the idea of safety on construction sites. Over 5100 employees took part in over 214 various events organized by the company.
The originator of the action is the Agreement for Safety in Construction, which was created as a bottom-up initiative of several general contractors. They all had one goal in common – to minimise and ultimately completely eliminate accidents on construction sites. “The May Safety Week is always a special event for companies in the industry and their employees. We meet on the sites of our investments to talk together about activities that can help us avoid accidents. It is also a time when we make everyone aware that the responsibility for safety at work rests with each and every one of us to the same extent,” says Dariusz Blocher, President of Budimex SA.
Slogan 2019 – “Don’t take shortcuts. Never!”
This year’s edition of the Safety Week was held under the slogan calling for conscientious compliance with health and safety rules and always acting in accordance with the developed standards. “No time saving is worth risking your life and health. This is what we wanted to convey in this year’s edition of the event. As Budimex, we have engaged as many as 457 subcontractors in activities and activities on construction sites, and we have involved 99 partners and institutions in the organisation. It was m.in. Police, Fire Brigade, technical universities, emergency medical services and the National Labour Inspectorate. Each of the people taking part in the action is a potential life saved,” explains Urszula Gawrysiak, Director of the Occupational Safety and Environmental Protection Office at Budimex SA.
Meeting, workshops, demonstrations – what happened on construction sites
As part of the Safety Week, Budimex prepared a series of meetings and workshops with OHS experts for employees, during which they had the opportunity to learn m.in. first aid, or update your knowledge about safety. On the other hand, people interested in the work of rescue services could take a close look at specially organized shows. “Budimex never forgets about the youngest, which is why we have also invited local schools and kindergartens to celebrate the Safety Week. Children in many towns had the opportunity to visit construction sites and learn how to take care of their safety,” says Urszula Gawrysiak.
The construction site is a very demanding place to work. Sometimes a moment is enough to make a serious mistake for which you have to pay with your health or life. It is important that OSH does not remain just a theory, but a common and constantly applied practice. “On construction sites carried out by Budimex, special attention is paid to protective clothing, compliance with health and safety rules and supervision of work in this respect. We want to achieve a zero result in terms of accidents, and our annual participation in the Safety Week brings us closer to this goal,” says Dariusz Blocher.
