On the occasion of the start of the school year, Budimex is continuing the pilot project of 3D line painting. In Boguszów-Gorce, another three-dimensional pedestrian crossing has just been built, implemented as part of the Hello ICE – Budimex for Children programme. After Bartoszyce, Lesznowola, Miechów, Sanok and Częstochowa, it is the sixth city in Poland to test the increasingly popular solution.
“Three-dimensional stripes are very popular among cities and local governments, so in response to their expectations, we decided to continue the project in the new school year. This is an important element of Budimex’s efforts to raise awareness of safety, both for pedestrians and drivers – said Aldona Orłowski, Director of the Recruitment, Development and Communication Office at Budimex SA. – The Hello ICE program is an initiative that we are really proud of. We believe that any solution that can improve road safety is worth a practical test –Adds.
3D belts are an unusual and rare solution not only in Poland, but also in the world. Thanks to the optical illusion, they look like an obstacle, which prompts drivers to take their foot off the accelerator. The solution has so far been looked at m.in. in the Indian capital, where it was shown that the average speed of vehicles before the 3D transition was as much as 40% lower than in the case of “standard” lanes. Three-dimensional “zebras” have been created in recent years, among others in Iceland, London, China and France. Interestingly, the lanes attract the attention of not only drivers, but also pedestrians. It should be emphasized that they are also an interesting contribution to a conversation with children about what can happen on the road.
3D belts are not everything
As part of the Hello ICE program, not only three-dimensional stripes are painted. An important element of it are events aimed at deepening knowledge in the field of road safety. Therefore, in addition to the 3D belts, Budimex also organised a Safety Day at Primary School No. 6 in Boguszów Gorce. The organizers, led by Budi the Tiger (the mascot of the program), safely led the students along the new lanes and conducted classes on road safety. In addition to expanding knowledge and increasing awareness, fun is equally important, which is why the Hello ICE team also conducted a road simulation in a specially prepared safety town. Reflectors and ICE (In Case of Emergency) cards were waiting for children, with space for the data of a parent or guardian.

The event was something special, and for the students of Primary School No. 6 it was a brilliant lesson that touches on such an important topic as road safety. As part of the Hello ICE programme, there is also an interactive map of dangerous spots around schools and kindergartens created by Budimex. The essence of the solution is to eliminate dangers in sensitive points as soon as possible, in cooperation with local governments. The program’s website publishes ready-made lesson plans on safety, intended for teachers.
Hello ICE is a social and educational program addressed to kindergartens and grades I-III of primary schools, aimed at educating children in the field of road safety.
