Budimex SA is the winner of the 22nd edition of the “Benefactor of the Year 2019” competition. The company was recognized in the “Education – large company” category for building the first “Puszczyk” Forest Primary School in Poland, located in Osowicze, near Białystok.
The organizer of the competition for the title of “Benefactor of the Year” is the Academy for the Development of Philanthropy in Poland. It is the largest and longest running competition of this type in Poland. For 20 years, it has been awarding socially responsible companies. In this year’s edition, its jury selected winners in 7 categories: local development, corporate foundation, education, ecology, social assistance, health and sport.
– The title of “Benefactor of the Year” is a unique distinction for Budimex, especially since corporate social responsibility is an extremely important sector of our activity. For years, we have been focusing on helping children, so we are very happy that it was the “Tawny Owl” project that won the recognition of the competition jury – says Dariusz Blocher, President of Budimex SA.
The jury awarded the company for its cooperation with the Trzy czte ry! Foundation, under which the first forest primary school in Poland was established. It was the foundation that submitted Budimex to the competition. – Thanks to Budimex, we were able to make our dreams come true, to prove that there is an alternative to traditional school. To show that the role of the teacher must be redefined. As labour market research shows, what we lack is not knowledge, but soft skills: cooperation, openness to change, the ability to listen to the other side, assertiveness. This is what we want to teach our children above all – said Agnieszka Kudraszow, president of the foundation and originator and founder of the forest school, during the gala.
Design selected in the jubilee competition
In 2018, Budimex SA celebrated the 50th anniversary of its operations in the industry. On this occasion, the company organized a competition for a social initiative that could significantly improve the quality of life of the local community. Budimex undertook to select the winning design and implement it. At that time, the company received nearly 250 reports m.in. foundations, associations or social organizations. The jury of the competition “Change the world. Budimex 50 years” selected the project of creating infrastructure for the first forest school in Poland from among all applications.
Budimex focuses on CSR
Corporate social responsibility is a strategic element of Budimex’s operations. In addition to occasional CSR competitions, the company runs two permanent projects at the same time – “Parent Zone” and “ICE Intercom”. As part of the first of them, Budimex creates comfortable places for the youngest patients and their parents to spend time together in hospital children’s wards. So far, 29 such spaces have been created. The ICE intercom, in turn, is a program that increases the safety of children on the roads. – We have been implementing it for 10 years and during this time we have equipped 33 thousand people with accessories for personal and communication safety. children from 334 schools. As part of both programmes run by Budimex, over 125 thousand people benefited from the aid last year alone. children in hospitals and educational institutions – says Dariusz Blocher, President of Budimex SA.
