Biskupia Górka in Gdańsk is almost halfway through

Works on the construction of a new viaduct at Biskupia Górka in Gdańsk are already close to the halfway point. The construction of the first of two arched viaducts over the railway tracks towards Gdańsk Główny is already ready. The paving will begin soon. This will allow temporary traffic to run the new viaduct and at the same time enable the demolition of the old viaduct –says Site Manager Michał Radziszewski.

The biggest challenge of this contract is its location. The new road system will be built on 800 meters of national road No. 91 at the level of Biskupia Górka, the SKM Śródmieście stop and the Pomeranian Voivodeship Office. It is a particularly sensitive place where traffic from Pruszcz Gdański flows into the centre of Gdańsk and connects with the national road No. 7 towards Warsaw. At the same time, we carry out all bridge works over rail traffic without stopping trains – says Damian Kryszewski, Contract Director.

In connection with the archaeological findings considered by the Conservator of Monuments as worthy of being exhibited as monuments of history, the construction of the car park and its surroundings will be implemented in such a way as to create not only functional possibilities for the user, but also to please the eye of visitors.

In addition to the historic downtown development and the need to carry out work on active railway lines, the biggest challenge in terms  of engineering and organization is still ahead of us, is the demolition of the existing bridge structure. In a nutshell, the existing viaduct will be  cut in the middle of the span, prestressed with an additional structure, and then pushed beyond the tracks, and there we will safely remove both parts of the  viaduct – said Damian Kryszewski, Contract Director on behalf of Budimex SA.

The works are advanced in approx. 40%. The contract worth  PLN 147 million is being implemented by Budimex. The investor is the Gdańsk City Hall The planned completion of the works today is October 2020.
