In January this year, Budimex announced a project dedicated to start-ups, “Budimex innovations”. Now it presents its first effects – a proof of concept of intelligent lighting, implemented with Optical Electronics.
A result that exceeded expectations
Intelligent lighting fixtures, designed and manufactured by the start-up, were tested. The assumption of the project was to confirm the energy efficiency of the solution used – innovative sensors, thanks to which natural lighting is maximized in the office. The survey took place at Budimex’s headquarters in Warsaw and lasted two months.
All lamps were made in the same LED technology, lit up with the same color, and had power supplies of the same power. However, half of them are equipped with the OptiMo sensor system. The installed modules enabled the autonomous operation of each luminaire and smooth replenishment of the emitted amounts of light to the selected and most favorable number of lux – depending on the lighting conditions in the room and motion detection.
The result of the measurements exceeded expectations. For lighting without sensors, energy consumption was recorded at the level of 228.94 kWh, and for lamps with sensors only 66.89 kWh. The use of innovative sensors in lighting fixtures has resulted in energy savings and thus costs of up to 70%!
Working in a new light
Smart lighting is not only about economy. In offices, where we spend almost 1/3 of our time, working conditions are important. Among many factors, lighting has a significant impact on the well-being, comfort and health of people who spend several hours a day in the office. Therefore, the voices of employees who participated in the implementation of the proof of concept of smart lighting were important.
Since I wear prescription glasses every day and work at the computer, my eyes are particularly sensitive to artificial light. After replacing the lighting with smart ones, I can literally see the difference. – says Emilia, Specialist in the Recruitment Team. The light in the office changes depending on the daylight and dims when no one is at the desk or reminds me that I have been working still for too long. The eyes do not get tired as with the previous ordinary light. Certainly, the comfort of work is better. –Adds.
Cooperation with start-ups
Optical Electronics joined the “Budimex innovations” project thanks to the KPT ScaleUp acceleration programme, run by the Krakow Technology Park.
The proof of concept carried out with Budimex SA made it possible to evaluate the effectiveness of lighting with OptiMo modules in real office conditions. The method of remote measurement of illuminance, developed by Optical Electronics, has been submitted to the Polish Patent Office.
