We should develop mechanisms for financing railway investments that are more systemic and less dependent only on the financing of EU funds. The construction industry needs a predictable and stable source of financing for railway investments – said Maciej Olek, Member of the Management Board of Budimex, at the Railway Congress in Warsaw during the opening debate. Budimex was the main partner of the Congress.

In addition to Budimex, the guests of the opening of the event were: Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Infrastructure – Andrzej Bittel, President of PKP PLK – Ireneusz Merchel, MPs and representatives of the railway industry.

During the Congress, Maciej Olek emphasized the need to provide, after the experience of the last two years, new sources of financing for railway investments. ” In our opinion, railways, as green transport, should participate in revenues from CO2 emissions, and the Railway Fund should be able to incur long-term liabilities for growing revenues – this is a strategic challenge for the industry for the coming years ,” said Maciej Olek.

At the Congress, an important declaration was made, probably by the future Deputy Prime Minister, Krzysztof Gawkowski from the Left, that the first funds from the National Recovery Plan for the railway will be launched as early as December this year. The mobilisation of these funds should unblock railway tenders in 2024.
