On June 15, 2020, 23 months after signing the contract, the official commissioning of the Oncology Center of the Lublin Region (COZL) took place. The opening of the hospital was attended by the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, and the Vice-President of Budimex, Artur Popko. The basic value of the contract carried out by Budimex is over PLN 129 million. The total cost of the entire investment, including the necessary equipment, is nearly PLN 550 million.

COZL is the largest oncology hospital in the Lublin region, which has several wards with specialized medical equipment and a professional team of doctors and specialists. A center that meets high requirements in the care of patients fighting cancer. It is one of the most important centers not only in the Lublin Voivodeship, but also in eastern Poland. Thanks to the expansion, the modern hospital facility will be able to treat over 500 people.

The history of the investment dates back to 2011, when other contractors were involved in the construction of this facility. In March 2018, a tender was announced for a new, third company to complete the project. The complex after the previous investors, who left the construction at the completion level of about 40%, was finalized by Budimex.

“Once again, we show that we can finish and do what other contractors have not been able to build.  – said Artur Popko, Vice-President of the Management Board of Budimex SA, during the opening of the hospital. We have extensive experience in the construction of hospital facilities. These are particularly demanding construction sites for construction contractors. Our references in this area are one of the best in Poland – adds Artur Popko.

As part of the contract, specified in the second stage of the investment, Budimex took care of m.in. completion of construction works in the field of the didactic and administrative facility and reconstruction, extension and superstructure of the existing clinic building. The general contractor undertook the demolition and reconstruction of a block with a bed part, the expansion of the Oncor 3 ward and the reconstruction and superstructure of the radiotherapy building. It was also necessary to m.in. construction of a liquid nitrogen tank with an external installation. The third stage of construction concerned the modernization of the facility – due to the change of use of part of one of the buildings, buildings No. 3 and 4 required the reconstruction of some internal installations.

Budimex has also equipped COZL with a swimming pool with dimensions of 13.85 x 5.25 m and a depth of 1.35 m and 2 SPA bathtubs with hydromassage. He built a hydrotherapy room and a kitchen complex located on two floors.

“The implementation of this project required a lot of experience. On average, 240 people were on the construction site every day. We also cooperated with 176 subcontractors. The scale of the project is worth showing in numbers – over 200 tons of structural steel were allocated for the completion and repair of the steel structures of the technical storeys and patio, and during the reinforced concrete works, 1,000 m3 of concrete and 72 tons of reinforcing steel were used – explained Artur Popko, Vice-President of the Management Board of Budimex SA.

COZL is one of several investments carried out by the company in Lublin. Currently, Budimex is also modernising the People’s Park and expanding the Independent Public Clinical Hospital No. 1.
