In the Pro-Medica hospital in Ełk, another unique space for the youngest patients has been created. It was carried out by Budimex as part of the “Parent Zone. Budimex for Children”. A specially designed and built from scratch playroom has been prepared to create a place for children to spend time with their parents or caregivers and take a breath from the hardships of hospital treatment.
“Parent Zone. Budimex for Children” is a nationwide social programme initiated and fully financed by Budimex, which has been implemented for over 10 years. As part of the campaign, 42 spaces for toddlers and their parents have been created so far in children’s wards of Polish hospitals. Thanks to this, young patients can take their minds off the disease for a moment and spend time in an interesting way. Every year, nearly 30 thousand people across Poland use the Parent Zones. The Parent Zone was implemented by m.in. workers at the nearby construction site of the Ełk railway station and the S61 Suwałki-Budzisko road. – I am glad that together with my team we could contribute to the creation of the Parent Zone in Ełk. Until December 2022, we were building a section of the S61 Suwałki-Budzisko road. This allowed us to join the implementation of this special project – said Cezary Łysenko, Member of the Management Board of Budimex SA, when opening the investment.
The zone was built on the site of the old hospital terrace. The entire built-up area is about 40 sqm. The zone includes, among m.in, such attractions for children as a ball pool, a TV set, a tent for playing, and a drawing board.
– It is a great joy for me to be here with you today and to present a project that is the result of the work of the members of the contract, for which I have the pleasure to be responsible. We have been present in Ełk since 2021, when we signed a contract for the modernization of the railway station. This is a very complex investment in technical terms. Above all, however, it is a project that will contribute to improving the comfort of the city’s residents, but also of all passengers traveling to and departing from this location – said Maciej Olek, Member of the Management Board of Budimex SA.
The 42. Parent Zone, local partners were also involved – the companies “Plastimet” and “DAR-TECH”. As part of the project, additional space was added, the balcony structure was strengthened and fragments of the building’s walls were insulated.
On behalf of the hosts, Boże Szelągowska – Director of the hospital took part in the event. The main contractor and sponsor of the project, Budimex SA, was represented by Cezary Łysenko and Maciej Olek – Members of the Management Board of Budimex. The event was also attended by: Tomasz Andrukiewicz – Mayor of the City of Ełk, and representatives of the local government, local entities and organizations.
The modernization of the Ełk railway station has reached 65 percent. advancement. The scope of the investment includes the reconstruction of railway tracks with a total length of 38.3 km (including 3.8 km as an option) together with the subgrade and drainage as well as the Railway Control Devices at the Ełk Passenger and Ełk Towarowy stations; Buildings 118 turnouts (including 2 as an option); construction of 5 platforms (including 2 options); a total of 2600m of edge (400m as an option) adapted to the needs of people with disabilities with full infrastructure; reconstruction of the overhead contact line and the network and lines with railway power equipment; construction of a control room building with new equipment at the Ełk station. On average, approx. 140 units of equipment and nearly 400 people. The value of the contract is nearly PLN 587 million.
This is not the only Budimex project implemented in Ełk. Preparatory works are underway to start the construction of national road 65, i.e. Norwida Street with a bridge over the Ełk River. The contract value is approximately 25.5 million net.
