Budimex has built a modern transport hub in Lublin. The new station is a three-storey building with a usable area of over 18 thousand. m2 with a “Park & Ride” garage that can accommodate 174 cars, equipped with chargers for electric vehicles. Attention is drawn to the roof of the building in the form of an observation deck, on which a recreational space for waiting passengers has been arranged.
The station will be the largest communication center both in Lublin and in the region. It will integrate public transport with extra-urban bus and bus transport as well as rail transport.
“This is a unique investment for both the city and the region, which was recognized as one of the most beautiful stations in Poland even before the completion of the construction. A facility with such characteristics and functionalities should contribute not only to the development of tourism in the entire voivodeship, but also noticeably facilitate everyday communication for residents – says Artur Popko, President of Budimex.
The design has state-of-the-art pro-ecological solutions and meets the highest standards in terms of sustainable development. On the facility, in glass roofs, there are photovoltaic panels with a capacity of 0.5 MW. To ensure the operation of the heat pumps, the general contractor drilled 42 boreholes with a total length of almost 6 km, while the underground garage was made so that its ventilation proceeds naturally, thanks to air circulation. These solutions are intended to achieve full energy self-sufficiency of the building. The station building is also equipped with a modern rainwater recovery system – constantly providing water for irrigation of greenery and for sanitary purposes.Anti-smog paving slabs were also used and a charging station for city buses was planned.
The Metropolitan Station is literally drowning in greenery. A total of 100 new trees and over 31 thousand new trees were planted on the investment site. shrubs, climbers, and ornamental grasses. The green wall alone with an area of 290 m2 – one of the largest of its kind in Poland – was created from nearly 27 thousand. Plant.
The building constructed by Budimex also features interesting architectural solutions, such as impressive pillars resembling tree branches and a façade creating the impression of two separate buildings hidden inside. The challenge was also to construct a steel structure with a total weight of 2,200 tonnes. The usable roof in the form of an observation deck, visible from afar, is very impressive. This space was created for waiting passengers, who will be able to use walking routes, as well as tables, chairs and hammocks. With the youngest in mind, a playground with a rope park was built.
The building has been constructed to ensure maximum comfort for people with disabilities and is fully adapted to the collision-free movement of pedestrians and people with disabilities, as well as people with reduced mobility. Outside, guidance plates have been installed to all entrances of the station, to platforms and stops, and to elevators. The same marking system was used inside. All this to make it possible to reach the ticket offices and toilets. With people with mobility disabilities in mind, two checkout stands have been lowered to a height of 90 cm. The facilities also apply to cyclists, who will find nearly 70 parking spaces and 1.3 km of bicycle paths on site.
There are references to the city in which it was built at the station. On the inner wall in the hall, a concrete map of Lublin with an area of approx. 200 m2 was made. The second one was built outside and was integrated into the floor. In turn, next to the station building, there are independent bus platforms covered with a glass roof supported by pillars, decorated with motifs from folk cut-outs.
As part of the contract, Budimex also carried out road works. The reconstruction of streets was carried out by making 18.7 thousand. m2 of bituminous pavement and 26.2 thousand. made of granite cubes and stone slabs.
