On 7 October 2015, less than two years after the contract was signed, the cross-city tram line rebuilt by Budimex from the Toruń Miasto junction to Al. Solidarności and the interchange at the Toruń Miasto railway station.
As part of the investment, Budimex rebuilt the tram track (a total of over 2.6 km of single track) along with the accompanying infrastructure along the following streets: Wały Generała Sikorskiego, Szumana, Plac Św. Katarzyna, Warszawska Street and a fragment of Traugutta Street, and built an interchange at the Toruń Miasto railway station.
The tram track has been replaced, with special technology to reduce vibrations and noise emissions. Along the tram line, safe stop platforms were built, raised above the street level (Vienna stops). The new overhead contact line has been suspended on decorative steel poles (in accordance with the recommendations of the conservator of monuments), which also serve as street lighting. The track works were completed on June 30 this year.
Bicycle paths have been created along the streets, pavement and entrance surfaces have been replaced. Traffic lights at intersections have been modernised and equipped with induction loops detecting the tram and an infrared system ensuring that the priority of the tram crossing the streets is maintained.
At the interchange, over Traugutta Street, a footbridge was built, which connects the tram platforms and both sides of the street with the Toruń Miasto station. The footbridge has been roofed with a glass roof, equipped with lifts for the disabled, passenger information boards (rail and tram) and video surveillance. The surface of the platform and the steps of the stairs leading to the platforms were made of granite.
Skrzyńskiego Street has gained a new look and importance, which, thanks to the reconstruction, will become an important parking facility for travelers and residents using cars. A bicycle shelter has been built for cyclists, and there are plans for a Toruń City Bike station. There are also parking spaces for coaches.
