- Budimex has completed test piling as part of preparations for the foundation of the Port of Poland passenger terminal. Further preparatory works are underway at the new airport.
- Currently, tests and test loads of the piles are being carried out, the results of which will allow to verify the adopted design solutions before the start of the main stage of piling.
The works are carried out as part of the task entitled “Execution of design and construction works in the field of deep foundations for the passenger terminal building”. Budimex is responsible for the preparation of intermediate foundations, which will form the basis for the construction of the future terminal of the new airport being built between Warsaw and Łódź. In parallel with the preparatory works, Budimex is carrying out design works related to the development of the detailed design for the subsequent stages of the foundations.
The execution of the test piles has been completed. Their tests and test loads are currently being carried out, which will allow to confirm the adopted design assumptions before the start of the target piling. The works are moving forward, and at the same time, Budimex is preparing the site for the main works: about 70% of the topsoil has been removed, and about 50% of the temporary retention tanks. The area is also being levelled and the work platforms for piles for the foundations of the passenger terminal are being prepared.
“This project is unique primarily because of its scale. With such a large scope of investments, the proper organisation of works, logistics and maintaining a high pace of work while maintaining the required quality parameters will be crucial. As Budimex, we have the experience and technical facilities to carry out the most demanding geotechnical tasks. We are prepared to smoothly enter the main stage of work after obtaining the necessary decisions,” says Grzegorz Zbierański, Project Manager at Budimex SA.
The foundation of the passenger terminal will be one of the largest projects of this type currently being carried out in Poland. As part of the contract, piles and columns will be made using various technologies, which will form the foundations for the future passenger terminal and will be responsible for the safe transfer of the loads of the structure to the deeper layers of the soil. The construction of the target piles is planned to begin after the Contracting Authority obtains a building permit.
The value of the contract carried out by Budimex is nearly PLN 146 million gross. According to the assumptions, the completion of construction works related to the foundation of the terminal is planned for the turn of 2027 and 2028.
Budimex is the contractor of a strategic infrastructure project
The airport under the Port of Poland programme is to ultimately handle over 300 thousand connections per year and have two independent runways. The project is one of the largest infrastructure projects currently being implemented in Poland, and Budimex is the contractor of the first construction works related to the foundation of the facility. The company has many years of experience in the implementation of the largest and most complex infrastructure projects in the country. It has its own laboratory and technical facilities as well as competences in the implementation of investments requiring the use of specialist geotechnical technologies or deep foundations.
