On 27 April 2021, Budimex completed the construction of two sections of the S3 expressway: Brzozowo – Miękowo and Miękowo – Rzęśnica in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. Traffic on the new route between Mięków and Rzęśnica has been going on since June last year – the general contractor has just completed the last finishing works to fully adapt this section to the parameters of the expressway.
The S3 is one of the key routes in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship for the transport of the entire voivodeship. Already for the May holidays, drivers will take a new, over 40-kilometer section of this dual carriageway expressway on the Szczecin – Świnoujście route. Budimex, which is responsible for the construction of two sections of the S3, is currently commissioning a more than 22-kilometre section between Brzozów and Mięków and is completing finishing works on the already open to traffic section of the S3 between Mięków and Rzęśnica.
– As a general contractor, we have extensive experience in the implementation of road infrastructure in Poland. We are glad that we are just putting into operation further kilometers of the S3 expressway, which is strategic for local and national traffic. As part of the first task, Budimex built a 22.14-kilometre section of the S3 expressway in the new route of the road on the Brzozowo – Miękowo section, together with three road junctions “Brzozowo”, “Przybiernów” and “Babigoszcz” and two motorway service areas “Przybiernów” east and west. The general contractor was also responsible m.in. for the construction of 14 engineering structures along the expressway and in the line of roads intersecting with the expressway and roads serving the adjacent area, including 4 animal and amphibian crossings. Budimex also dealt with the reconstruction of the existing roads, ensuring the continuity of the existing DK3 and roads serving the adjacent area, as well as the construction and reconstruction of infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists.
– A large part of the key works on this construction was carried out in difficult and unpredictable pandemic conditions. The challenge was the lockdown, employee absenteeism and interruptions in supply chains beyond our control. However, thanks to the incredible professionalism of everyone involved in this contract, we were able to complete the construction according to schedule, for which I would like to thank the entire team and colleagues – comments Maciej Kańkowski, Budimex Contract Director. The value of the contract for the construction of the Brzozowo – Miękowo section is PLN 293.13 million net.
Budimex also implemented the second section of the S3 between Mięków and Rzęśnica, which has already been made available to drivers. The general contractor, within 14 months from the start of the works, i.e. 9 months before the planned date, completed the m.in. 4 km of the main route in the expressway standard, 2 road junctions (Kliniska and Rzęśnica), completed full drainage of the designed road system with retention reservoirs, installed lighting of junctions and horizontal and vertical markings with road safety elements. The company also built three bridge structures, including two road viaducts located within the Kliniska (WD3) and Rzęśnica (WD5) junctions, and a bridge over the Ina River in the S3 (ME29) line. In recent weeks, finishing works have been carried out on this section of the S3 road, which has just been fully completed.
– When constructing the Miękowo – Rzęśnica section, we used m.in. Ok. 90 thousand tons of bituminous layers, about 76 thousand. tons of aggregate mixture for the foundation and we made over 294 thousand. m3 of embankments. We also used m.in on the construction site. of robots facilitating equipment working on 3D location systems. One of the biggest challenges in the implementation of this section of the S3 was to carry out the works in stages on an active expressway in compliance with contractual requirements, i.e. the need to provide drivers with two roadways with two lanes each during the holiday season – comments Robert Jastrzębski, Budimex Contract Director. The value of the contract for the construction of the Miękowo – Rzęśnica section amounted to PLN 102.66 million net.
The S3 in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship is another infrastructure investment in Budimex’s portfolio. The general contractor is also responsible m.in. for the construction of the A1 Tuszyn-Piotrków section, the S61 expressway (on the sections: Suwałki – Budzisko with the Szypliszki bypass, Stawiski-Szczuczyn, Wysokie – Raczki) and the S19 expressway on the section from the Białystok Zachód junction (without the junction) to the Białystok Księżyno junction (with the junction) and on the section between the Kamień and Sokołów Małopolski Północ junctions.
