On 5 February 2016, Budimex signed a contract with the Zielona Góra Branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways for the construction of the second carriageway of the S3 expressway on the Sulechów – Nowa Sól section (section III). The contract has a net value of PLN 153.2 million.

As part of the investment, Budimex (leader, 95 per cent) in a consortium with Ferrovial Agroman will build a second roadway on a 17.3-kilometre section of the road. The road is located in the Lubuskie Voivodeship, in the Nowa Sól district.

The scope of work includes:

  • construction of the eastern roadway of the S3 road (two lanes),
  • construction of collection and service roads, reconstruction of transverse roads,
  • reconstruction and expansion of the Niedoradz (part) and Nowa Sól junctions,
  • construction and reconstruction of the road drainage system, including the existing roadway of the S3 road,
  • construction of engineering structures, traffic safety equipment, and environmental protection equipment,
  • reconstruction of conflicting infrastructure,
  • construction of the Road Maintenance Circuit.

Budimex has 22 months to complete the investment, but winter periods (from 15 December to 15 March) will not be included in the completion time.

This is another agreement of the company for the construction of the S3 road. In October 2015, Budimex signed a contract worth PLN 158 million net for the construction of a 13.3-kilometre section of the second carriageway of the S3 road from the Zielona Góra Północ junction to the Niedoradz junction.

The S3 expressway, which is currently under construction, is a part of the international route E65, which lies in the Trans-European Transport Corridor. The S3 will run longitudinally from the Świnoujście-Szczecin seaport complex in the north, along the western border of the country to the border with the Czech Republic.
