Representatives of the Consortium, which includes Budimex SA (Consortium Leader, 45% share), Budimex Kolejnictwo SA (5%) and Gülermak SA (50%), have signed a contract for the design and comprehensive implementation of construction works on the H section of the railway line No. 622 Szczyrzyc – Tymbark. The investment is part of the strategic project “Construction of a new railway line Podłęże – Szczyrzyc – Tymbark/Mszana Dolna and modernization of railway line No. 104 Chabówka – Nowy Sącz – Stage II”.
The contract signed on 6 October 2025 covers the design and construction of the H section of railway line No. 622 between Szczyrzyc and Tymbark. This is nearly 8 kilometers of new railway infrastructure, which will significantly improve the communication system in Małopolska. The most demanding and spectacular element of the project will be the construction of two modern railway tunnels – T7 with a length of about 1.1 km and T9 with a length of almost 3.8 km, with accompanying evacuation tunnels. The net value of the contract is PLN 1.693 billion.
“The construction of a new section of the Szczyrzyc-Tymbark railway line is one of the most important infrastructure investments in Poland. As Budimex, we will implement a strategic part of the project, including, among other things, the construction of two modern railway tunnels. This project will significantly improve the transport accessibility of the region and raise the standard of rail travel,” said Artur Popko, President of the Management Board of Budimex SA.
In addition to the tunnels, the Consortium will also construct numerous engineering structures, including three railway bridges, three road bridges, a railway viaduct, a road viaduct, ten culverts and a retaining wall. The project also provides for the construction of a new passenger platform in Stróża near Dobra with a length of 200 meters, equipped with modern infrastructure for passengers. An integral part of the contract will be the construction of the overhead contact line and the implementation of advanced railway traffic control systems, which will increase capacity and safety
on the modernized section.
The project is part of the wide-ranging program “Construction of a new railway line Podłęże – Szczyrzyc – Tymbark/Mszana Dolna and modernization of railway line No. 104 Chabówka – Nowy Sącz”, which is of strategic importance for both passenger and freight traffic in southern Poland. Its aim is to shorten the travel time between Krakow and Nowy Sącz and to create a new, fast railway connection with Podhale and the Nowy Sącz region.
Budimex has been one of the largest contractors of railway investments in Poland for many years. The most important railway contracts of Budimex in recent years include the improvement of rail access to the port of Gdynia, the reconstruction of Warsaw’s Western Railway Station and the modernisation of the junction in Czechowice-Dziedzice. These projects, carried out in parallel with the work on Rail Baltica, confirm the company’s strong position among industry leaders.
