Budimex S.A. and the American Bechtel Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding on potential cooperation in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Poland.
The signing ceremony took place at the U.S. Ambassador’s Residence in Warsaw, in the presence of U.S. Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski and the heads of Bechtel Corporation and Westinghouse.
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company are jointly preparing a project for the Polish government to build a power plant with three reactors on the Baltic Sea coast. The power plant will be based on Westinghouse AP1000 reactors.
Bechtel and Westinghouse bring practical knowledge to the construction of a nuclear power plant in Poland. Bechtel has built or serviced more than 80 reactors in the U.S. and 150 worldwide. Bechtel is currently completing the expansion of the nuclear power plant in the United States, at the Vogtle plant in Georgia, this two-part expansion also uses Westinghouse AP1000 reactors.
The agreement was also signed by 11 other companies representing the potential of Polish companies.
In August last year, Budimex and Mostostal Kraków also signed a strategic cooperation agreement with another supplier of nuclear technologies for the energy sector: Hyundai Engineering.
The potential nuclear power plant project will be implemented by the Power and Industrial Construction Division of Budimex SA, which has completed several dozen energy investments in Poland and Lithuania. The largest of these was the construction of a new power unit at the Turów Power Plant with an electrical capacity of 496 MW for the PGE Group, completed in 2021. The same Division has also completed selected sections of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline for Gaz Systems.
