Budimex has started construction works on a bridge structure in Germany near the Polish border. The tender for the demolition and construction of a new bridge in Liepe in Brandenburg, worth €5.1 million gross, was won by the largest Polish general contractor at the end of 2021.

The investment carried out by Budimex is located in Liepe in the federal state of Brandenburg, in the district of Barnim, in eastern Germany. One of the largest ship lifts in Europe is nearby. The Oder-Havel Canal, a very important waterway connecting the Oder River with the network of waterways in Germany, flows through this town. This is where the steel parts of the bridge, which are being built in Szczecin, are transported. The first stage of construction works is the demolition of the old bridge structure.

– Our task is to demolish the old bridge and build a new structure. This construction is a big challenge for us. Due to the nature conservation area, the transport of materials to the south side must be carried out by water. We are currently starting demolition works. The first step is to cut out the middle span of the load-bearing structure, which will then be lowered in its entirety using a system of pontoon presses. We have only 48 hours to cut out the middle span. This time is so short because we can no longer block the waterway – says Denis Buchta, construction manager of Budimex Bau.

Budimex is the largest construction company in Poland, which has already completed thousands of modern investments throughout the country. Currently, the company employs over 7,000 people. One of the elements of Budimex’s development is to expand beyond Poland and into European markets. On the German market, Budimex SA operates together with its subsidiary Budimex Bau GmbH in the area of infrastructure, cubature  and industrial construction. Budimex Bau can boast of winning further tenders in these areas. Budimex is also present in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In December this year. the general contractor has started work on the construction of the Slovak D1/D4 motorway junction.
