Since 2017, Budimex has moved up from 61st to 25th. among the largest individual CIT payers in Poland. The Polish construction company is the largest tax payer among construction companies operating on our market. According to the CIT ranking published by the Ministry of Finance in September this year, Budimex generated PLN 123 million of CIT for the previous year.

In 2018, Budimex was even lower in the ranking, taking 165th place. As in previous years, Budimex paid the largest tax among other construction companies in the country.

“In our opinion, it is not the shareholding structure, but the company’s commitment to the market and responsibility in this market towards suppliers, subcontractors and society that is a measure of economic patriotism ,” says Dariusz Blocher, President of Budimex SA. We build in 99% in Poland, for the benefit of Polish investors. This is where we pay taxes and invest in the development of both the company and thus our country – adds Blocher.

According to the President of Budimex, such responsibility is also evidenced by other indicators, not directly related to taxes. “We pay salaries for employees in the amount of over PLN 1 billion annually. We cooperate with 50 thousand suppliers, subcontractors and cooperators. In total, approx. 100 thousand people a year. Most of them are both Polish companies and local companies on construction sites. We attach great importance to reliable settlements with all our partners – says Dariusz Blocher.

According to Budimex data, taking into account taxes in the entire chain of suppliers, employees and subcontractors and other social benefits such as ZUS, 70% of funds allocated to salaries for general construction contractors return to the State Treasury. In the top 50. The largest taxpayers, construction companies are not the leader.

– The problem of the entire industry of large construction companies is low profitability – currently, according to the Central Statistical Office, at the level of 1-2%, i.e. five times lower than that of small construction companies. As a result, construction companies, despite having higher revenues, do not pay proportionally higher taxes  – explains Dariusz Blocher.

This is confirmed by the President of the Polish Chamber of Commerce for Road Construction – Barbara Dzieciuchowicz. “Margins on infrastructure contracts carried out for the State Treasury and local government contracting authorities are very low. In addition, there are high risks, mostly transferred to construction companies, related to the terms of contracts implemented within about 3 years from signing the contract, and 4 or even 5 years from submitting the offer. Therefore, construction companies are practically not present in the top 50 largest taxpayers. – says President Dzieciuchowicz.

– The state should constantly carry out activities to facilitate doing business. In the case of construction companies working primarily on public contracts, this is particularly important, an even distribution of contractual risks, real valorisation of long-term contracts, stable and predictable financing of investments, will contribute to an increase in the number of construction companies among the largest taxpayers in Poland – says Barbara Dzieciuchowicz.

Since 2011, Budimex has been listed on the WIG Respect index (since 2019 WIG ESG) of the most responsible listed companies. Budimex is a leader in the construction industry – on average, every fourth kilometre of a motorway or expressway put into service is built by this company.
