On 29 September, the consortium of Budimex SA (consortium partner with a share of 48.46%), Steinmüller Babcock Environment GmbH (consortium leader with a share of 39.26%) and UAB Kauno dujotiekio statyba (consortium partner with a share of 12.28%) signed a contract for the construction of a waste incineration plant in Vilnius. The investment, worth EUR 178 million net, will be carried out by the consortium on behalf of JSC “Vilniaus kogeneracinė jėgainė”, provided that the investor manages to arrange financing for the project.

The contract was concluded at the site where the incineration plant will be built. The ceremony was attended by Algirdas Butkevičius, Prime Minister of Lithuania, and Remigijus Szimaszius, Mayor of Vilnius. The Polish side was represented by Maria Ślebioda, Head of the Political and Economic Department of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Vilnius, and Dawid Tomaszewski, Second Secretary of the Political and Economic Department of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Vilnius. Budimex was represented by the company’s president – Dariusz Blocher and Piotr Świecki – director of energy and industrial construction.

The President of Budimex did not hide his satisfaction with the order obtained by the company – We are returning to the Lithuanian market, which is all the more pleasing as it will be an important investment from the point of view of the city and its residents.

The scope of work entrusted to the consortium includes the construction of a waste incineration plant, which includes a waste incineration boiler, turbo-generators for both the incineration plant and the biomass unit, a flue gas treatment system and systems supporting the operation of the incineration plant. Budimex will be responsible for the execution of almost half of the works.

In December 2015, Budimex successfully completed the construction of the Municipal Waste Disposal Plant in Białystok with a capacity of PLN 120 thousand. tons per year, which, thanks to thermal waste neutralization, additionally produces electricity and heat.

“We are strengthening the position of our company on the energy construction market, as evidenced by the acquisition of another contract. In the long term, we want Budimex to be associated in the energy sector with the competences of the EPC contractor (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) concludes President Blocher.

Budimex’s involvement in the implementation of this type of projects proves its excellent opinion of Polish entrepreneurs as solid and reliable business partners who have modern knowledge and extensive experience in the field of energy investment execution. It is also an important manifestation of Polish-Lithuanian economic and trade cooperation.
