Budimex SA, three months before the contract deadline, has reached the second milestone in the construction of the Tri-City Metropolitan Bypass (OMT) – a key route for the region. The planned time of commissioning of the route is April 2025. The progress of the works has exceeded 50%.
The inauguration of work on the OMT took place on November 24, 2022. According to the plans, the general contractor is to complete the contract worth PLN 668.8 million net within 38 months from signing the contract, excluding winter periods, until April 2025.
The project includes the construction of a 16.3 km long dual carriageway expressway, road junctions, circuits and engineering structures. Budimex, acting in the “Design and Build” formula, has committed itself to the comprehensive implementation of this ambitious project.
– The construction of the OMT was divided into two parts. The first task is the section Chwaszczyno junction (without the junction) – Żukowo junction (without the junction) with a length of 16.3 km. At the moment, we are at the peak of works. More than 620 workers are working on the construction site to build a dual carriageway expressway with two lanes in each direction with a reserve for the third lane, the “Miszewo” and “Chwaszczyno” road junctions, the Miszewo road circuit – informs Przemysław Czaja, Contract Director at Budimex SA.
Currently, the progress of works has exceeded 50%. The construction includes 16.5 km of the main S-class road, 15.5 km of service and access roads, over 3 million earthworks and over 230 thousand km. m3 of land exchanges. As part of the OMT, 28 bridge structures are also being built, and the progress of works in this area is already 60%.
– Working on this contract is a big challenge. The entire works are densely intersected by a network of local and access roads. There are two active railway lines in the contract area, causing additional difficulties. We have over 280 thousand to be completed on the section. tons of bituminous mass, which is a really large scale even for an S-class road – adds Przemysław Czaja.
Works on the section implemented by Budimex are progressing faster than the schedule, which resulted in a nearly three-month acceleration.
– Achieving the second milestone ahead of schedule is not only proof of efficiency, but also of the commitment of the Budimex team to the implementation of this key infrastructure project. The Tri-City Metropolitan Bypass, due to its importance and scale, is often referred to as the queen of Polish bypasses. Its construction is the fulfillment of the expectations of the inhabitants of the Tri-City and Pomerania, which have been articulated for years, but the importance of the route itself is also important from the point of view of domestic and international transit and tourism” – says Jakub Długoszek, Director of Infrastructure Construction at Budimex SA.
The bypass under construction is also important for the region due to its strategic importance for transport within Żukowo and Chwaszczyno. Its presence will significantly relieve traffic on the existing S6 expressway of the Tri-City Bypass.
– Thank you for the support we receive from the residents of the Tri-City and Pomerania. This is an additional motivation for us to work even harder. We are determined to complete this project to the highest standards and on time. The Tri-City Metropolitan Bypass, after reaching the anticipated shape, will indeed become the queen of Polish bypasses, and we are proud to be its co-creators – adds Przemysław Czaja.
Ultimately, the OMT will be about 39 km long and will enable efficient passage from the A1 and S7 motorways to the west and north of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, leading transit traffic to further sections of the S6 route towards Lębork, Słupsk and Koszalin.
OMT is another infrastructure investment in Budimex’s portfolio. This year, the company completed m.in. construction of the S-11 section – the “road of life” for Central Pomerania and Wielkopolska, and the A-18 motorway, contributing to the liquidation of the so-called “road of life”. “the longest staircase in Europe”. – We work on sensitive routes, our competence in the field of infrastructure allows us to meet the requirements of these sections and timely and often faster than scheduled completion of works. We know that such investments immediately translate into the development of the region and the improvement of the comfort and safety of travelers – says Jakub Długoszek.
On average, Budimex constructs every fourth kilometre of expressway in Poland. Eighty percent of road contracts are completed by the Polish general contractor before the contract deadline.
