On 16 April 2021, Budimex signed a contract with the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, Gdańsk Branch, for the construction of another section of the S6 expressway as part of the project entitled: “Construction of the Tri-City Metropolitan Bypass divided into 2 parts: Part No. 1: Construction of the Tri-City Metropolitan Bypass. Task 1: Chwaszczyno junction (without the junction) – Żukowo junction (without the junction)”. The contract, worth over PLN 581 million net, will be completed by the general contractor within 38 months of signing the contract, excluding winter periods, i.e. by March 2025. The signing of the agreement was also attended by Mateusz Morawiecki – Prime Minister and Andrzej Adamczyk – Minister of Infrastructure.
The contract was signed on the S6 Luzino-Szemud section implemented by Budimex, which is a continuation of the planned Tri-City Metropolitan Bypass. As part of the investment, Budimex will be responsible for the implementation of approx. 16.3 km of the Tri-City Metropolitan Bypass, which is part of the S6 expressway. By 2024, a dual carriageway expressway will be built with two lanes in each direction and with a reserve for the third lane, the “Miszewo” and “Chwaszczyno” road junctions, the Miszewo road circuit, as well as m.in. 25 engineering structures. The contract will be implemented in the “Design and Build” formula.
– Budimex has extensive experience in the implementation of road contracts in Poland. We are glad that we will implement a new section of the S6 expressway, which is strategic for all local and national transport. This is our next large investment in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. Currently, we are also implementing the S6 Kashubian Route on the Luzino-Szemud section. We will complete the construction of this section within the next 12 months – says Dariusz Blocher – President of the Management Board of Budimex SA.
– Eighty percent of road construction projects are completed before the deadline. We have experience in the implementation of road sections that are very demanding from the engineering point of view: on unstable and uneven soils, with numerous flyovers or wetlands. We always keep our promises and bring contracts to an end for the benefit of investors and road users – adds Dariusz Blocher.
The construction of the OMT was divided into two parts. The first task, carried out by Budimex, is the section between the Chwaszczyno junction (without the junction) and the Żukowo junction (without the junction). As part of the second one, the works will be carried out by a consortium of Mirbud and Kobylarnia companies on the section Żukowo (with the junction) – Gdańsk Południe (extension of the junction) and on the Żukowo bypass. Ultimately, the OMT will be about 39 km long and will enable efficient passage from the A1 and S7 motorways to the west and north of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, leading transit traffic to further sections of the S6 route towards Lębork, Słupsk and Koszalin. The bypass under construction will also be of strategic importance for transport within Żukowo and Chwaszczyna and will relieve traffic on the existing S6 expressway of the Tri-City Bypass.
OMT is another infrastructure investment in Budimex’s portfolio. Currently, the company is implementing m.in. construction of the A1 Tuszyn-Piotrków section, the S61 expressway (on the sections: Suwałki – Budzisko with the Szypliszki bypass, Stawiski-Szczuczyn, Wysokie – Raczki) and the S19 expressway on the section from the Białystok Zachód junction (without the junction) to the Białystok Księżyno junction (with the junction) and on the section between the Kamień and Sokołów Małopolski Północ junctions.
