On 31 December 2014, Budimex signed a contract with the Łódź branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways for the construction of the Bełchatów bypass along national road No. 8.
The contract has a net value of PLN 118.4 million. The new route will be about 11 kilometers long (GP class – main accelerated traffic) and will be built in the 2+1 system of two lanes in one direction and one in the opposite, alternately. The scope of work also includes:
- construction of four road junctions,
- reconstruction and expansion of sections of communal, district and provincial roads,
- construction and reconstruction of access and internal roads, pedestrian routes, road culverts and drainage,
- construction of three viaducts over the bypass and six along the bypass (including one animal crossing),
- construction of a bridge along the bypass over the river, municipal road and internal roads,
- installation of traffic safety, environmental protection, lighting equipment and reconstruction of the existing technical infrastructure.
The bypass will relieve the city centre of transit traffic and improve travel on the Wrocław – Warsaw route on national road No. 8.
Budimex has 19 months from the date of signing the contract to implement the investment. Winter periods (from 15 December to 15 March) are not included in the implementation time.
