On December 18, 2020, the general contractor signed a contract with the Roads and Bridges Authority and the Public Transport Authority in Lublin for the construction of the Integrated Communication Center (ZCK). Budimex’s offer was announced as the most advantageous in the tender concluded in October this year.

Budimex will give a new look to the old railway station square in Lublin and turn it into a unique promenade and a modern communication centre in the region. As part of the project and tasks 1, 3 and 4, the general contractor will build a new bus and railway station building between Młyńska, Gazowa and Dworcowa Streets. New platforms will also be built here, which will be able to efficiently handle urban, extra-urban and long-distance transport buses.

–  This is an important moment from the point of view of the city’s consistent transport policy. After many years of efforts, Lublin will have a station up to the challenges of the 21st century. This is one of the largest and most important investments of the City co-financed from European funds in this EU perspective. We will build a fully functional hub, integrating Lublin’s internal transport with regional and long-distance transport. I am convinced that this investment will be an example of modern transport solutions for other cities in Poland, but also in Europe. Already in 2022, we will use a completely new space, which Lublin has been waiting for a long time – says Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of the City of Lublin.

–  We are very happy that in Lublin, where Budimex has been actively present for over 15 years, we will implement such an important investment for the city. After the Lublin Arena, the athletics stadium, the revitalization of Litewski Square and the People’s Park, and the reconstruction of Mełgiewska Street, Bohaterów Monte Cassino Street, the viaduct on ul. Grygowa, as well as the extension of Al. Solidarity in the direction of Warsaw, the construction of the metropolitan station along with the reconstruction of the transport system is another organizational and technical challenge – says Artur Popko, Vice-President of the Management Board, Chief Operating Officer at Budimex.

According to the contract, an underground car park with an area of approx. 7.5 thousand m2, which can accommodate 174 cars. In turn, green roofs have been designed on the building, with particular emphasis on air-purifying plants. The facility will be equipped with modern m.in technologies. A special rainwater recovery system that will provide water for watering plants as well as for sanitary purposes. The total area of the three-storey station building is over 18 thousand. m2. It is worth adding that the facility will be adapted to the collision-free movement of pedestrians and PRM people.

The station building, and especially what makes it original and modern, i.e. the “tree columns”, require extraordinary care and precision in execution to achieve the effect intended by the architect. We are fully ready to implement not only from the engineering side, but also from the organizational side, so as to minimize the difficulties for residents related to the implementation of the investment – adds Artur Popko.

As part of the project, Budimex will also rebuild existing streets and build new ones in the city centre. Several roadways, sidewalks and bicycle paths around the station will gain a completely new look. After the revitalization, the station square will become a decorative promenade, where vehicular traffic will be completely removed. The alley will be a visual and functional link with the main entrance to the railway station. In front of the building, parking bays with Kiss & Ride places are also planned. On 1 Maja Street, an architectural extension of Dworcowy Square, there will be m.in. new plantings of trees and shrubs, elements of small architecture, parking spaces and bicycle racks.

The project also provides for the extension of ul. Krochmalna, where two new roads are to be built. Along them, over 120 parking spaces for buses and buses are planned. A social and technical building for the station service with a social part for drivers is also planned in this area.

The Metropolitan Railway Station in the Lublin agglomeration is another cubature investment carried out by Budimex. The general contractor is currently working on the expansion of the Public Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Lublin, where a new building will be built including m.in. a new operating theatre, emergency room, intensive care unit, diagnostics and laboratory facilities. In the last two years, Budimex has also completed an integrated transport hub for municipal governments in Katowice and Kielce.
