Budimex has won the tender for the construction of the Starogard Gdański bypass along national road No. 22. The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, Gdańsk Branch, selected the company’s offer as the most advantageous. The contract value is PLN 358.93 million net. The investment will be implemented in the “design and build” formula, and completion is planned for the second quarter of 2029.
The project includes the development of design documentation, obtaining a ZRID decision and the performance of construction works. The bypass will lead transit traffic outside the centre of Starogard Gdański, increasing the safety of residents and improving travel conditions in the region.
“This is an important contract for Budimex, both in terms of the scope of works and its importance for the residents of Starogard Gdański. Our goal is to implement the investment in accordance with the highest standards of quality, safety and environmental protection. The experience of the team and proven work organisation will allow us to deliver the route on time, which will improve the comfort of travel and relieve the local transport system,” emphasises Cezary Łysenko, Member of the Management Board, Operational Director of Infrastructure and General Construction at Budimex SA.
The new road will have one roadway with an overtaking lane in a 2+1 system, implemented alternately in both directions. It will connect to the public road network through turbine roundabouts. The scope of works will also include the construction of viaducts, bridges, animal crossings, ecological culverts, noise barriers, retention reservoirs and rainwater pre-treatment systems. The surface will be adapted to the traffic of vehicles with an axle load of 11.5 tonnes.
After the completion of the investment, transit car traffic, which is currently concentrated on the urban section of DK22, will be moved outside the center. This will reduce noise, exhaust emissions and increase the safety of road users. The bypass will be a key element of the transport system of the southern part of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, improving road connections both regionally and nationally.
Budimex is the largest road contractor in Poland – it is responsible for an average of every fourth kilometre of newly built expressways. In June this year, Budimex signed a contract for the construction of the S11 on the Ostrów Wielkopolski – Kępno route (second section) worth PLN 478 million, which was one of the largest contracts signed in the first half of 2025. Budimex plays a key role in the construction of national roads, being the main contractor under the Government Programme for the Construction of National Roads and the Programme for the Construction of 100 Bypasses, thus contributing to the modernisation of the transport network in Poland.
