Budimex will carry out the construction of flood protection of the Nysa Kłodzka River valley

Budimex has signed a contract for the construction of flood protection for the Nysa Kłodzka River valley, covering the areas of Międzylesie, Kłodzko, Długopole-Zdrój and the Bystrzyca stream in Bystrzyca Kłodzka. As part of the contract worth over PLN 157.8 million gross, the infrastructure will be modernized to improve the flow of flood waters, which are most common in this area. The investor of the project is the State Water Holding Polish Waters – Regional Water Management Authority in Wrocław.

Budimex will carry out works on the following sections of watercourses:

  • the Nysa Kłodzka River on the section from km 172+200 to km 174+600 and the section of the Dolna stream from km 0+000 to km 0+050 (Międzylesie Facility);
  • the Nysa Kłodzka River on the section from km 156+970 to km 158+100 and the estuary section of the Porębnik stream on the length of approx. 25 m (Długopole-Zdrój Facility);
  • the Nysa Kłodzka River on the section from km 148+078 to km 151+475 and the Bystrzyca stream on the section from km 0+129 to km 1+659 (Bystrzyca Kłodzka Facility);
  • the Nysa Kłodzka River on the section from km 127+433 to km 134+312, the section of the Bystrzyca Dusznicka River from km approx. 0+203 to km approx. 0+332 and the estuary section of the Jodłownik stream with a length of approx. 100 m and the estuary section of the Jaszkówka stream with a length of approx. 50 m (Kłodzko Facility).

“The activities that we will carry out as part of the contact are to include the construction, reconstruction and renovation of regulatory structures along with the technical and functional facilities related to them. As a general contractor with extensive experience in hydrotechnical structures, we will make every effort to ensure that the investment is completed on time and with the highest respect for the natural environment – says Damian Nowakowski, Contract Director.

Work on the investment is to concern m.in. reprofiling of existing regulatory walls with sectional reinforcement and slope reinforcements, as well as demolition of damaged structures, their reconstruction or construction of new infrastructure. In addition, the general contractor will carry out cleaning and renovation of the flood embankment (Kłodzko Facility), reconstruction of the flood embankment on the Bystrzyca Dusznicka River and the weir in the Kłodzko Facility, as well as reconstruction of the weir and rapids in the Bystrzyca Kłodzka Facility.

Budimex will also construct a fish migration channel on a section of approx. 500 m with a steering threshold (Bystrzyca Kłodzka Facility), ichthyological unblocking through the reconstruction and construction of rapids on the existing rapids or construction of a fish ladder on the weir with a chute for downward migration, located at the weir on the right bank (Kłodzko Facility), construction of a fish migration channel (in low water conditions) on a section of approx. 1450 m from the weir to the mouth of the Młynówka River (Kłodzko Facility), reconstruction of arch bands (Kłodzko Facility), as well as renovation of the estuary section of the Jodłownik Jaszkówka stream.

The general contractor will also be responsible for shaping the coastline, including m.in. construction of stairs, sidewalks (Kłodzko Facility) or profiling of the area for the beach on a section of approx. 50m (Bystrzyca Kłodzka facility).

The planned completion date of the investment is June 30, 2025.

Budimex, as a general contractor, specialises m.in. in the implementation of hydrotechnical and bridge structures. Currently, the company is carrying out a number of works as part of the construction of the T3 Baltic Hub container terminal (in consortium with DEME), the bridge over the Regalica River in Szczecin, the Vistula Spit canal, the construction of flood embankments on the Oder River and a pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Vistula River, which is to connect the centre of Warsaw with Praga Północ. Recently, Budimex has also completed m.in. construction of a swing bridge in Nowakowo. In 2021, the company completed the expansion of Europe’s largest tailings pond – Żelazny Most, and  in 2020 it built the Racibórz Dolny flood control reservoir for the Odra River – the largest such facility in Poland.
