Budimex has signed a contract for the design and implementation of a comprehensive reconstruction of the building at 22 Kasprzaka Street in Warsaw, which will become the new headquarters of the Jewish Theatre and the Labour Office m.st Warsaw. The cultural and social investment will be implemented in the “design and build” formula and will be completed within 24 months of the conclusion of the contract.
The signing ceremony took place on 2 April in the building at 22 Kasprzaka Street in Warsaw, which will become the new headquarters of the Jewish Theatre. The document was signed by Ewelina Degowska, Director of the Warsaw City Development Board, Gołda Tencer, Director of the Estera Rachel and Ida Kamiński Jewish Theatre, and Cezary Łysenko, Member of the Management Board and Chief Operating Officer of Infrastructure and General Construction at Budimex SA, with the participation of Aldona Machnowska-Góra, Deputy Mayor of m.st Warsaw, and Agnieszka Wyrwał, Chairwoman of the Culture Committee of the Warsaw City Council.
The scope of the investment includes a comprehensive reconstruction of the existing building and the construction of new parts of the building for the needs of the Estera Rachel and Ida Kamiński Jewish Theatre – Yiddish Culture Centre. The works include, m.in the demolition of existing elements, including the “Leipzig” pavilion, the construction of a new part of the building in monolithic technology, the execution of general construction and installation works and the installation of modern stage technology. The investment will also include land development, making connections and obtaining an occupancy permit.
Ultimately, the facility will have a main stage with an audience of about 350 seats and a chamber stage for 100 spectators, as well as educational and conference spaces. The usable area of the theatre part will be over 3.5 thousand m², while the part intended for the Labour Office will be about 2.5 thousand m².
The project also includes the development of full design documentation and the implementation of space for the Labour Office on the upper floors of the building. As part of the works, elements of urban infrastructure will also be made, including sidewalks and the development of the space around the facility. The value of the contract is PLN 115.2 million, and the time for its implementation is 24 months from the date of conclusion of the agreement.

Such projects are of particular value to us, as they combine high engineering requirements with responsibility for space important for the inhabitants of the capital and for the cultural heritage of Polish. They require not only engineering competence, but also sensitivity to the role that this facility plays in the fabric of the city and the cultural memory of Warsaw,” says Cezary Łysenko, Member of the Management Board of Budimex SA.
“We have taken the first step towards creating a space on the Warsaw cultural map for a theatre of particular importance, both for the preservation of the heritage and the identity of the city,” says Ewelina Degowska, Director of the Warsaw City Development Board, adding: “The combination of the cultural function with the social aspect is a response to the needs of contemporary Warsaw and the activation of its residents.

The company built one of the most recognizable theatre stages in Poland – the Shakespeare Theatre in Gdańsk, and was also responsible for the revitalization of the Polish Theatre in Szczecin, restoring its modern functionality while maintaining the historical character of the building. Currently, the company continues its involvement in the development of cultural infrastructure, implementing the expansion of the Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz and the modernization of the Aleksander Węgierko Dramatic Theatre in Białystok.
