Budimex wins the first prize for the safest construction site!

Construction of Budimex – the Mangalia housing estate for Budimex Nieruchomości in Warsaw won the first place in the competition organised by the National Labour Inspectorate BUILD SAFELY.

 

It is a competition organized annually by the District Labour Inspectorates, the aim of which is to promote contractors of construction works, ensuring safe workplaces in the process of construction of construction facilities, and in particular to disseminate valuable achievements of employers that deserve distinction, which in turn should contribute to the increase in the general level of work safety in the construction industry on a national scale. The evaluation criteria were not only the development of the construction site, taking measures to prevent accident hazards, or the assessment of the accident rate, but also the coordination and effectiveness of supervision over compliance with health and safety rules and regulations by all operating entities.

 

The “Mangalia” construction site scored the maximum number of points, which allowed it to overtake the other 6 construction sites from the province. Mazowieckie, submitted to the competition by leading companies in the construction industry.  Putting safety first in everyday work is also reflected in the accident statistics – both at the current – second stage, which began on 18.06.2018, as well as at the first stage, which lasted 488 days, there were no accidents at work, despite the complexity of the work carried out and the involvement of a large number of subcontractors at the same time and place.

 

This is another award from Budimex granted by the National Labour Inspectorate. In November, Budimex was the only construction company to receive a distinction in the “Build Safely” competition organised by the National Labour Inspectorate in Kielce. The award was granted for Budimex’s special care for the safety of the working environment at the construction site of the S-7 Skarżysko-Kamienna expressway. The accident rate at Budimex construction sites in 2018 decreased by 8%. The company’s goal is to constantly strive for the complete and permanent elimination of serious and fatal accidents.

 

The number of accidents in the construction industry is decreasing

Construction is on the 2nd floor. among the industries in which workplace accidents occur most often. According to the National Labour Inspectorate, in 2018 540 people were injured in accidents at work, including 70 who lost their lives. And this means that at least one person dies on the construction site every week. In accidents investigated by labour inspectors, 171 people suffered serious injuries (in 2017 there were 215). For several years, the number of accidents in the construction industry has been regularly decreasing. According to the latest data from the Central Statistical Office, compared to last year, the number of people injured in accidents at work decreased by 3 percent. Budimex has completed works on an 18.9-kilometre section of the S5 expressway. Already in December, drivers will drive on a modern road connecting Poznań and Wrocław. One of the most important contracts in the Wielkopolska Region was completed on time. The investor is the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, Branch in Poznań.
