The value of the contract amounts to approx. PLN 909.6 million.  The execution of design and construction works along with acceptance is planned for a period of 3.5 years. As a result of the works on the section, it will be possible to increase the current speed for both passenger trains to 160 km/h and freight trains to 120 km/h, as well as increase the safety and accessibility of the railway for people with mobility disabilities.

The concluded contract covers the implementation of construction works in the field of track system, hanging a new overhead contact line, access roads and railway crossings, platforms, construction of control rooms, as well as electricity, gas, water and sewage networks, as well as the preparation of a detailed design and implementation of construction works for the installation of railway traffic control equipment and railway telecommunications network equipment.

It will be a demanding contract due to its scope and scale. We are heading towards the end of the adjacent task, the modernization of the Czechowice-Dziedzice junction, which we will complete within the contract deadline. A very committed and good team of people on this contract will be a great support for this project – said Artur Popko, President of the Management Board of Budimex S.A., during the signing of the contract.

36 engineering structures such as viaducts, bridges, underground passages and culverts will also be built and rebuilt. 47 km of new tracks and 18 turnouts will be built.

‎– The implementation of the contract is undoubtedly a challenge due to the scope, but we have extensive and well-documented experience in the implementation of even very complex contracts covering both road and rail infrastructure. As a result of our activities on the Tychy – Vistula Bridge section, not only the safety but also the accessibility of the railway will certainly improve, which will certainly be associated with multifaceted social and economic benefits for the region. We are pleased with the contracting and the accompanying trust in another locally sensitive section of infrastructure – says Wojciech Głuc, Regional Director at Budimex S.A.

The aim of the works is to extend the railway line to a speed of 160 km/h for classic rolling stock in the case of passenger trains with the possibility of increasing the speed and to a speed of 120 km/h for freight trains. In addition, the works will increase the accessibility of the railway for people with reduced mobility and improve safety within the Tychy – Vistula Bridge section.

In 1963. on the Katowice – Bielsko-Biała Główna section, the line was rebuilt into a double-track one. Railway line No. 148 was opened in 1939.
