Budimex with its first contract in the Czech Republic – the general contractor will build the Kutřin polder

Budimex will build a polder in Kutřin, Czech Republic. As part of the agreement signed on 21 December this year. contracts for the amount of PLN 113 million (CZK 563 million), a 146-metre-long dam will be built. The contract also provides for the revitalization of the river over a length of 2 kilometers. The works will last 39 months, including the winter months. This is the first project of a Polish general contractor in the Czech Republic, which has been present on this market for two years.

“The signing of the first contract in the Czech Republic is an important element of our strategy to increase our presence on the markets of neighbouring countries, which we have been implementing in recent years. The trust placed in us by our southern neighbour is a direct consequence of the projects successfully implemented by Budimex in Germany and Slovakia – says Artur Popko, President of the Management Board of Budimex.

The main element of the contract is the construction of a dry retention reservoir in Kutřín. The site is part of the flood protection of villages located below the confluence of the Krounka and Novohrádek rivers. The dam built by Budimex will be 146 metres long and its maximum height above ground level will be 17.80 metres. The structure will be 5.67 meters wide in the crown, on which a paved road will be built.  The retention volume of the facility is 3.6 million m3, and the area of flooded land at full retention volume: 67.5 ha.

Recently, Budimex has significantly accelerated its expansion into foreign markets. The company has been present m.in for many years. in Germany and Slovakia, where it is building an important intersection of the D1 and D4 motorways. Budimex submitted the lowest bids and is in first place in two tenders: for the construction of a 21 kilometer long section of the motorway from Džbánov to Litomyšl in the Czech Republic and D11 Trutnov to the Polish border with a length of 21 kilometers.

In December, Budimex also signed its first contract in Latvia – for the construction of the Rail Baltica railway line. As part of the contract worth EUR 3.7 billion, the winning ERB RAIL consortium, consisting of France’s Eiffage Génie Civil, Polish’s Budimex and Italy’s Rizzani de Eccher, will build a 230-kilometre high-speed railway. The aim of the task is to integrate the Baltic States into the European railway network by creating a connection between Tallinn and Warsaw. Increasing the company’s presence on European markets translates into a good financial condition.

Budimex has extensive experience in the implementation of hydrotechnical investments. As a general contractor, it rebuilt, among others: the ports in Świnoujście and Szczecin, the Płonie Canal at the Martwa Wisła River in Gdańsk and the Rydzyna Water Reservoir. The company also modernized the ports of Gdansk and improved access to the ports of Gdynia and Świnoujście. In December this year. the company has completed the reconstruction of one of the most important flood protection investments in the Opole region. The Żelazna Polder is over 11 km of embankments that protect against flooding of the m.in. Opole.
