The largest Polish general contractor has obtained a decision on the permit for the implementation of a road investment (ZRID) for the sixth section of the S10 expressway between Szczecin and Piła. The issuance of the decision allows for the commencement of construction works on the Łowicz Wałecki – Piecnik section with a length of nearly 15 km. Budimex is implementing a total of six sections of this route and has already obtained ZRID decisions for five of them. The completion of the investment is planned for the third quarter of 2028.

The investment includes the construction of a section of the S10 expressway on the sixth section between the Łowicz Wałecki junction (with the junction) and the Piecnik junction (without the junction). The 14.8 km long route runs through the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in the Wałecki County, in the area of the Mirosławiec Commune.

The scope of the investment includes the construction of two road junctions – Łowicz Wałecki and Mirosławiec, as well as 19 engineering structures, including road viaducts and upper and lower animal crossings. As part of the contract, county and municipal roads will also be rebuilt, additional roadways will be built within the boundaries of the road lane and a comprehensive drainage system will be built along the route. The value of the contract is PLN 538.05 million gross, and the investment is being carried out in the “Design and Build” formula. Budimex signed the agreement with the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways in October 2024.

“Obtaining the ZRID decision and handing over the construction site is the moment when the project moves from the stage of preparation to the implementation of construction works. The Łowicz Wałecki – Piecnik section is another element of the S10 expressway we are building, which will significantly improve the transport accessibility of West Pomerania in the coming years. We have the appropriate technical facilities and an experienced team to efficiently implement this investment in accordance with the schedule,” says Łukasz Janowski, Regional Director at Budimex SA.

The next stage of the construction of the S10 route

The new section is part of a larger project to build the S10 expressway connecting Szczecin with Piła. Budimex is currently implementing six sections of this route, the total value of which is over PLN 3.05 billion gross, and their length is nearly 80 km. Along with the decision for the Łowicz Wałecki – Piecnik section, the company already has a ZRID for five of the six sections of the S10 it is implementing. After the completion of the investment, drivers will gain a modern road connection between West Pomerania, northern Wielkopolska, Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship and Mazovia.

The S10 expressway will be about 410 km long and will connect Szczecin  with the Warsaw agglomeration via Piła, Bydgoszcz and Toruń. The dual-carriageway route with two lanes in each direction will become an alternative transport corridor to the A2 motorway between central and north-western Poland. Thanks to the construction of the new route of the road, transit traffic will be diverted from the towns located along the current national road No. 10, which will translate into improved safety and comfort of life for residents.

The contracts for the implementation of the S10 sections are the next stage in the implementation of the Government Programme for the Construction of National Roads until 2030. Budimex has been involved in the construction of the most important infrastructure investments in Poland for nearly 60 years and has been implementing hundreds of kilometres of motorways, expressways, bypasses and local roads every year for over two decades.
