Ferrovial – a strategic investor of Budimex, supported the Polish Red Cross with PLN 875,000. Together with the general contractor, they donated a total of PLN 4 million to the fight against the coronavirus.

With the outbreak of the pandemic, Ferrovial established a special fund “Ferrovial Together COVID-19”, the aim of which was to raise funds to fight the effects of the spreading coronavirus. The initial investor contribution was EUR 5 million. This was followed by a fundraising campaign among employees, directors, shareholders, contractors, suppliers and anyone else who would like to support this worthy cause. At the same time, the company’s management also committed to doubling all donations.

To date, the “Ferrovial Together COVID-19” fund has raised €8.690 million. These funds have been used to make donations to health administrations, hospitals, universities, research and development centers and non-governmental organizations. From the budget received, the recipient entities purchased the necessary medical materials and equipment and conducted a number of studies on pharmacological solutions and vaccines. All this in order to combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic more effectively.

As part of this campaign, the Polish Red Cross also received a grant, which used the money to buy m.in. masks, gels and disinfectants, protective gloves and visors. In addition, the funds were also used to distribute meals and hygiene products to 3000 lonely seniors from 53 Polish cities. The same budget also provided personal protective equipment and sanitary materials for employees of hospitals and social welfare centers. The remaining part of the funds went to beneficiaries and institutions cooperating with the Polish Red Cross, e.g. night shelters in Szczecin or day-care centres for children in Lublin, Katowice and Kraków.

Budimex against the pandemic

The Polish general contractor is also involved in helping in the fight against COVID-19. Budimex, together with the We Are Together – We Help Foundation, has so far provided financial and material support to over 30 hospitals throughout Poland. The general contractor additionally provided assistance to nursing homes and municipalities. The total amount that the Budimex Group has allocated to the fight against the coronavirus is nearly PLN 3 million.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have been actively supporting Polish hospitals and institutions from the public sector. In this difficult time, any help, especially for the most vulnerable social groups, is of great importance – says Dariusz Blocher, President of the Management Board, CEO of Budimex SA.

All activities of the “We are together. POMAGAMY” campaign began with the campaign of the same name, initiated by Polish entrepreneurs at the beginning of the pandemic. At that time, the companies joined forces to raise as much money as possible to help hospitals. A thriving foundation was born from a spontaneous initiative, which has so far collected nearly PLN 50 million and supported m.in. hospitals and nursing homes in: Kraków, Warsaw, Wałbrzych, Racibórz, Łódź, Puławy, Żyrardów, Sochaczew, Suwałki, Łańcut, Poznań, Sanok and Wrocław.

Budimex also helped in the field of construction works in adapting two hospitals to receive coronavirus patients. It also provides in-kind aid in the form of masks, protective clothing and aseptic fluids.
