Budimex has completed the works and obtained an occupancy permit for the main route of the S61 expressway on July 15, 2021

The contract for the construction of the S61 expressway, section: Stawiski junction (without the junction) – the beginning of the Szczuczyn bypass was signed by Budimex S.A. and the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways on October 31, 2017 The investment was carried out in the “Design and Build” formula, while the contract value amounted to approx. PLN 300 million net.  After obtaining the decision on the permit for the implementation of the road investment and handing over the construction site by the Investor, on September 3, 2019. Budimex has commenced construction works.

The constructed section of the expressway between the Stawiski  and Szczuczyn junctions is located in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, in the Kolno and Grajewo districts and runs through the municipalities of Stawiski, Grabowo and  Szczuczyn. This section is a part of the national road S-61 Ostrów Mazowiecka – Łomża – Stawiski – Szczuczyn – Ełk – Raczki – Suwałki – Budzisko.

The investment is of great importance, both for Polish and for Europe. The implementation of the design and construction of the S61 expressway leads to the creation of a transit road system in Polish, which is a necessary action to adapt the road infrastructure to the standards of the European Union.

We are glad that, as an experienced General Contractor, we were able to implement the design and construction of another section of the S61 expressway, which is strategic for local and national traffic, and thus contribute to the improvement of the Polish road infrastructure ,” comments Artur Popko, President of Budimex S.A.

The section covered by the project was built as part of the Via Baltica route. It runs along the S8 expressway on the Warsaw – Ostrów Mazowiecka section, then connects with the S61 expressway, running from Ostrów Mazowiecka to the Polish border, located in the town of Budzisko.

The construction of the S61 expressway is associated with many benefits for road traffic m.in. improving the functioning of national and provincial roads by taking over part of the traffic, separating heavy traffic from built-up areas or reducing the negative impact of exhaust gases on the environment.
