Construction of an air traffic control tower in Pyrzowice

June 23, 2017 the cornerstone was laid for the construction of the air traffic control tower in Pyrzowice, which will be the highest facility of this type in Poland.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Construction, Andrzej Adamczyk, the President of the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency, Janusz Niedziela, the President of the Upper Silesian Aviation Society, Artur Tomasik,  and the President of Budimex SA, Dariusz Blocher, signed the foundation act for the new tower and laid the cornerstone for the construction.

The Katowice Airport control tower will be the tallest facility of this type in Poland. In a 46-meter building on an area of over 1800 sq. m. There will be a room with tower control and approach control stations, technical and garage rooms and social facilities. A system of internal roads with parking lots will be built around the tower. The operational level is located at a height of 42 m. The new tower is located in the south-eastern part of the port and will replace the old, “only” 23-meter tower.

The layout of the building consists of two elements. The low part is a two-storey building with a post-and-wall structure. The second part, 45.75 m high, contains a shaft built as a vertical support with a rectangular cross-section with a separate elevator passage and installation shafts inside. The core is secured by a foundation slab, while in the upper part of the shaft, the ceilings of the main part of the tower are supported on horizontal supports. The tower is crowned with a steel roof.

The façade of the tower was designed from an aluminum composite panel. An electric lift with a shaft and a shaft top without a machine room will be installed in the shaft, adapted to the requirements of rescue teams.

The new tower in Pyrzowice will be ready at the beginning of 2018. The contract value is PLN 20.22 million net.

The Katowice tower is an investment in the safety of air traffic and the improvement of its flow, and above all, it will become one of the infrastructural showpieces of the Silesian Voivodeship.
