Budimex, the largest employer in the Polish construction sector, was the first construction company to obtain an independent Equal Pay Certificate, confirming the real implementation of the “equal work – equal pay” principle. The company maintains a wage gap of approx. 3%, significantly below the national and European averages. The ceremony of awarding the Equal Pay Certificate took place on 19 November this year.
Equal pay is becoming one of the key challenges of the labour market – both from a social and business perspective. Transparent pay rules and no discrimination based on gender affect not only the employer’s image, but also engagement, talent retention and competitive advantage of companies. The Equal Pay Certificate is awarded on the basis of a detailed audit of the remuneration policy and HR standards, including, m.in, the transparency of remuneration rules, the method of determining salary ranges, the practice of promotions and raises, and the actual pay differences between women and men in the same positions.
The company has been pursuing a policy of equal opportunities, including equal pay, for years. Transparent rules of recruitment, promotion and remuneration, as well as regular salary analyses, confirm that the gender pay gap in Budimex has remained at around 3% for several years, which significantly distinguishes the company from average national and European indicators.
” Equal pay is not a slogan in our strategy, but a realistic standard, which has been confirmed by independent auditors. Being a leader means not only the scale of the projects carried out, but also responsibility for people and organizational culture. Thanks to transparent remuneration rules, our employees know what to expect – this strengthens trust and translates into their commitment – says Anna Karyś-Sosińska, Director of the Human Resources Management Division, Member of the Management Board of Budimex SA.
For several years, Budimex has been consciously working on changing the stereotype of the “male” construction industry. Today, women make up about 30% of Budimex’s staff, including more and more engineering and managerial positions. The company also runs a number of development and mentoring programs aimed at women, such as the “Women’s Synergies” program, m.in. The area of equal pay is monitored on an ongoing basis as part of the ESG strategy – Budimex regularly conducts remuneration audits to detect and eliminate any differences not justified by competence or scope of responsibility.
The Equal Pay Certificate project is carried out in cooperation with Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, which has been raising the topic of equal pay for years and drawing attention to the problem of the wage gap in the labour market.
