On 29 January (Friday), Budimex will hand over the second part of the Biskupia Górka viaduct in the centre of Gdańsk for use. This situation will cause car and pedestrian traffic to take place in the target system, i.e. two lanes in each direction. Works on the left roadway included the demolition of the existing viaduct and the construction of a new one, as well as numerous accompanying works
in the field of reconstruction of road infrastructure and accompanying industries.
A new viaduct over the tracks in the line of ul. The St. Wojciecha is based on three steel arched girders, to which platforms (separate for each roadway) were suspended, consisting of steel scaffolding combined with a reinforced concrete slab. As part of the project, a completely new road system is being created along the main artery of the Tri-City, which is ul. The St. Wojciech.
The investment included the construction of not only the above-described viaduct over the railway tracks, but also the construction of an access flyover with retaining walls, an adjacent viaduct over Nowe Podwale Grodzkie Street, a bridge over the Radunia Canal, reconstruction of access roads, elements of railway infrastructure and the construction of a multi-storey Park&Ride car park. The city center, uninventoried historical monuments discovered at the construction stage, the variety of industries requiring reconstruction, work under rail and car traffic did not make the task easier.
The opening of traffic around the new facility at the end of January brings us significantly closer to the final date of the investment, which is currently planned for the end of June 2021. At the moment, finishing works are underway on many fronts, including works related to
laying road surfaces, pavements, greenery, small architecture or works related to
with the construction of the aforementioned car park.
There are also works to be carried out in the vicinity of monuments discovered during construction, including seventeenth-century walls and fortified tunnels under the viaduct and next to the parking lot. The discovery of this class of monuments at the construction stage required an individual design approach and caused many organizational difficulties
and implementing measures.
