On 27 March, a contract was signed for the implementation of construction works worth PLN 66 million net, with a completion date of 18 months (until October 2020).

Works on the building with over 60 years of tradition will be carried out under the supervision of a monument conservator.

During the implementation, we will use many interesting solutions used in modern cubature construction. In order to secure deep excavations, we will use jet grouting technology. The planetarium will gain new facades and a refreshed historic façade, while the domes and interior of the facility will regain their former glory through the use of modern solutions and materials – says Radosław Górski – Member of the Management Board of Director. General Construction Budimex SA.

The general contractor will modernize the interiors of the facility and adapt it to the latest technical and utility standards. The scope of work will include not only the modernization of the existing building, but also the creation of a newly designed underground usable area and an observation tower with a camera obscura device used inside.

Due to the location of the facility in the area covered by mining in the past, the existing structure of the Planetarium will be strengthened, and the newly designed part will be protected against the impact of mining damage through an expansion joint system and structural solutions protecting the building against damage caused by surface deformations.

Preparation of the construction site will begin in April 2019, and the main construction works will begin a month later.
