In Kałuszyn, in the Mińsk district, the largest in Poland and the most modern, as well as the most innovative in Europe, Lidl logistics center was built. It will house a warehouse for food and industrial goods for stores located in the Mazowieckie, Podlaskie and Lubelskie Voivodeships. The cubic capacity of the facility is similar to the capacity of the Palace of Culture and Science, and the floor area would be enough for more than 5 football pitches. The construction was completed at the end of 2018.
The building of the new Lidl Distribution Centre is a hall with a rectangular shape, which is connected to the building for the receipt and shipment of goods and the workshop building. The object on the surface of approx. 28 thousand m2 has two storeys and a single-storey part (approx. 30 thousand m2) intended for high storage. The total usable area of the facility is approx. 58 thousand m2. On the first floor in the north-eastern part, there is an administrative and social space. The volume of the facility, amounting to 726 thousand. m3, is similar to the cubic capacity of the Palace of Culture and Science!
An investment of impressive scale
It is the largest in Poland and the most innovative in Europe center owned by Lidl. The scale of the investment is evidenced by the amount of materials used to build it. It’s m.in. 100 km of cables and wires, over 41 thousand. m2 of sandwich panels, which would be enough to insulate 200 single-family houses, or 58 thousand. m2 of floor – this area could be compared to more than 5 football pitches! The architecture of the warehouse is unique because it is the result of adaptation to the technology of storing and distributing goods. The building is two-storey: with a one-storey part intended for high storage and a two-storey part intended for low storage.
There are also ecological accents – the building is in the process of obtaining the prestigious LEED certificate, proving that it meets high standards related to energy efficiency and environmental protection. The assessment is based on five main criteria m.in. water management efficiency, energy use and quality of the internal environment. Innovation in design is an additional criterion. The level of certification is obtained on the basis of the total number of points awarded to investments.
“The implementation of the contract for Lidl was unique for us due to its innovation and the specificity of building for the food industry. However, we were supported in everything by the client, with whom we cooperated very efficiently. Lidl as an investor showed flexibility and timeliness, and any additional issues were solved on an ongoing basis. Thanks to the excellent cooperation, the logistics centre is today our pride in Europe,” says Dariusz Blocher. President of Budimex S.A.
“Thanks to its convenient location, the warehouse in Kałuszyn will allow the development of the Lidl Polska chain in the eastern part of the country. Modern logistics infrastructure will provide over 200 new jobs. The facility is certainly distinguished by modern and ecological solutions. We are proud that it was created under the supervision of a Polish company with a long tradition. Budimex has provided us with high standards of project implementation,” sums up Aleksandra Robaszkiewicz, Communications Manager, Lidl Polska.
Storage in modern conditions
Designed in a simple architectural form, the Lidl Distribution Centre will be a warehouse for food and industrial goods for stores located in the Mazowieckie, Podlaskie and Lubelskie voivodeships. The storage process will take place in the centre in an orderly manner – the goods will be delivered to the centre by trucks through loading docks to individual zones.
“Thanks to the use of single-colour materials and lighting strips, the large size of the investment is a dominant, but fitting element in the space of Kałuszyn, which is characterised by a small development. An interesting visual element is approx. 100 loading docks located on the ground floor,” says Ryszard Jarecki, Contract Manager at Budimex S.A.
