The meeting was attended by nearly 100 representatives of cities and municipalities from all over Polish. During the meeting, the basic legal problems related to the implementation of the municipal waste management system in the light of the amendment to the Act were discussed.

The most important aspects that were analyzed were, m.in:

  • financing of the municipal waste management system,
  • separate collection of waste in relation to Polish regulations in this area,
  • organization and conduct of a tender for a waste collection company,
  • Catalogue of obligations of municipalities.

The speech of Jordi Salvana Sabaté from the Ferrovial group, to which FBSerwis belongs (51 per cent of shares in Ferrovial Servicios, 49 per cent – in Budimex), aroused great interest among the participants. The guest from Spain discussed waste collection systems on the example of Barcelona. The choice was not accidental, because Barcelona and Warsaw have a similar number of inhabitants.

Jordi Salvany Sabaté, who was Director of the Engineering and Architecture Office of the City of Barcelona for 15 years, pointed out many practical solutions in this field that can be transferred to our soil.

The great interest of local government officials in the subject of municipal waste is evidenced by the questions posed by the participants, so the organizers have tentatively announced the possibility of organizing another conference.

The seminar was organized by a leading Polish law firm with an international reach – Domański Zakrzewski Palinka, which established a specialized Waste Management Advisory Team as part of the Infrastructure and Energy Practice.
