Budimex, the leading Polish general contractor, has completed the construction of the Transfer Centre in Sokółka – a modern complex integrating rail, bus and local transport. The new facility combines the nineteenth-century tradition of the place with the functionality of modern transport infrastructure and will be an important communication point and space for residents.
The reconstruction of the Municipal Transfer Centre in Sokółka included the construction of a new railway station building and the development of nearly 2 hectares of land around the Municipal Transfer Centre. The built, four-storey facility with a height of over 16 m was designed as a multifunctional space for travelers and the local community. On the ground floor level, there are, among m.in service premises, toilets and a representative main hall serving as a waiting room. Office rooms are planned on the upper floors.
The new facility was built in a place of exceptional importance for the history of the city. The first station in Sokółka was built in 1862 on the strategic route of the Warsaw-Petersburg Railway and for decades was an important communication point of the region. Today’s Transfer Center refers to this tradition, combining the historical character of the place with the modern functionality of the transport infrastructure
21st century.
” The implementation of projects such as the Transfer Center in Sokółka requires not only efficient organization of construction, but also very good communication with local institutions and residents. It was particularly important for us to maintain the continuity of the functioning of the urban space during the works and to create a facility that will serve the residents of Sokółka and the surrounding area for decades ,” said Wojciech Szawiel, Contract Manager at Budimex SA.
The implementation of the investment also included a wide range of infrastructure works and development of public space around the station. As part of the project, m.in a new rainwater sewer main, reconstruction and renovation of Kolejowa Street, a representative square with a fire road, parking spaces and bays for city and long-distance buses were made. In the vicinity of the facility, bus stop and bicycle shelters, parking spaces for taxis, elements of street architecture and trees, shrubs and lawns were planted. The value of the contract amounted to over PLN 43 million gross.
Budimex has been implementing infrastructure and cubature investments in the Podlaskie Voivodeship for many years. The most important projects of the company in the region include, m.in, the Museum of Blessed Fr. Jerzy Popiełuszko in Okopy, which is being built as part of the Podlaskie Museum in Białystok. In previous years, the company also completed the Sybir Memorial Museum in Białystok, one of the most modern museum facilities in Poland, as well as the renovation and modernization of the Railway Station in Białystok. These projects show the wide range of Budimex activities in the region, from roads and railways, through public infrastructure, to prestigious cultural investments.
