The Agreement for Safety in the Construction Industry is an informal association of leading general contracting companies on the Polish market, established in 2010, whose main goal is to eliminate fatal accidents on Polish construction sites.
So far, the Agreement has brought together eight companies: Bilfinger Berger, Budimex, Hochtief Polska, Mostostal Warszawa, Mota-Engil Central Europe, Polimex Mostostal, Skanska and Warbud. On 5 February 2015, two construction companies – Erbud SA and Unibep SA – joined the group of signatories, which will support the Agreement in its efforts to improve safety in the construction industry.
The reasons for joining the Agreement are reflected in the statement of the Management Board of Erbud:
“Erbud SA is one of the largest construction companies in Poland, achieving this position was possible thanks to stable development, quality and timeliness of project implementation, as well as the implementation and maintenance of the highest standards in the field of occupational safety. By becoming a signatory of the Agreement for Safety in the Construction Industry, we hope for the exchange of experience between the Partners and the development of common, highest possible safety standards for the entire construction industry.”
The Management Board of Unibep has a similar motivation:
“For many years, we have tried to make work safety on our construction sites the showcase of the entire Unibep S.A. Group. By joining the Agreement for Safety in the Construction Industry, we want to jointly develop good practices. In our work, life is the most important value. Behind the success of every company there is a person. And regardless of which of them he works in, he is supposed to be safe. Every potentially saved life on the construction site will be a success for all of us. So let’s work together to develop the highest safety standards on construction sites. Together we can do more!”
– We are very happy to have joined the Agreement between Erbud and Unibep. We are open to other companies that will implement high safety standards in the construction industry promoted by the Agreement – said Dariusz Blocher, President of the Management Board of Budimex SA, which currently holds the presidency of the Agreement for Safety in the Construction Industry. ” Each new member increases the scope of changes introduced on the construction market,” he added.
The Memorandum of Understanding’s activities focus not only on the group of signatories who employ over 20,000 Poles. employees and carry out several thousand contracts throughout the country, but also on a large group of subcontractors, who account for up to 70 per cent. forces implementing a given investment.
In order to improve work safety in the construction industry, it is also very important to support organisations related to the construction industry, such as the Chief Labour Inspector, the National Labour Inspectorate, the Polish Association of Construction Engineers and Technicians, the “Budowlani” Trade Union, the Polish Association of Construction Industry Employers, Secretariat of Construction and Wood Industry of NSZZ “Solidarność” and Polish Chamber of Civil Engineers. In October 2014, the Social Insurance Institution joined the group of supporters of the Agreement, and a month later the National Association of OHS Service Employees.
