Budimex together with GDDKIA Katowice Branch has commissioned another section of the Oświęcim bypass. This time, a fragment of 1.6 km of the road was made available to drivers, along with the newly built bridge over the Sole River. The new route is being built as part of the 100 Bypass Construction Program.
This bridge is a key element of the bypass awaited by the residents and authorities of Oświęcim. In 2026, the entire 9 km route will connect Oświęcim with the S1 route in the Silesian Voivodeship. This is the third section of the bypass to be put into use.
As part of the investment, a new national road No. 44 “Oświęcim Bypass” is being built, with a length of just over 9 km, leading from the Oświęcim junction on the S1 expressway under construction to the vicinity of the intersection of Zatorska and Grojecka Streets. The route bypasses the city from the south, providing a quick and safe connection to the Mysłowice – Bielsko-Biała expressway, and thus also to the A4 motorway.
The open bridge over the Soła River with a length of 463.5 m has one of the longest current spans of such a structure in Poland. It is 140 m. This facility makes it possible to run the national road No. 44 over Legionów Street in Oświęcim (DW 933), over the area of the “Zasole” water intake, the Soła River and the Kamieniec water reservoir.
The bridge structure consists of a prestressed concrete box girder with access flyovers made with the use of prefabricated “T” beams ,” says Anna Nicieja – Budimex Contract Director
The Oświęcim junction itself is located in the Silesian Voivodeship, between the towns of Bojszowy and Jedlina
The biggest distinguishing feature of this project are the bridge structures. The 432 m long bridge over the Vistula River is built in the longitudinal sliding technology, the 463 m long Bridge over the Soła River is built in the WK2 viaduct technology with a passage under the active LK93 and LK882 railway lines
