On 19 December, Budimex commissioned the first parts of the new Warszawa Zachodnia station: a 200-metre-long footbridge for passengers over the platforms and a new platform 6 and 9. After a few months, passengers gained access over the station by a new footbridge from Aleje Jerozolimskie towards Wola.
The modernization of the Warszawa Zachodnia station started in December 2020. After less than 12 months from the start of the works, the contract implementation reached the level of 30%. Such dynamic progress is due to the appropriate use of human and equipment potential. More than 500 people are currently working on the construction site. More than 150 equipment units are used for the work, and as many as 70 subcontractors offer support for Budimex employees. At the same time , structural elements are being made at levels 0, -1, -2 of the new underground passage under the Warszawa Zachodnia station. Work on the construction of a new multifunctional building has also been completed.
So far, nearly 40 turnouts and 3.5 kilometers of new tracks have been laid. Poles and gates of the new overhead contact line are already being built. Work on platform 6 has been completed and platform 7 is nearing completion. Powerful and modern shelters are being finished above the platforms. An underground passage is currently being built between the platform on the ring line to platforms 6, 7, 8.
Soil was also replaced and a concrete floor was poured. The Local Control Centre (LCS) building was also equipped with railway traffic control devices, i.e. computers and electronics necessary for efficient and safe train traffic.
The works at the Warszawa Zachodnia station are one of the largest investments of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. for over PLN 1.9 billion net. Implemented as part of the OPI&E 5.1-13 project entitled: “Works on the cross-city line in Warsaw on the section Warszawa Wschodnia – Warszawa Zachodnia”. The completion of the investment is planned for 2023.
Warszawa Zachodnia is a strategic station in Poland in terms of the number of trains running. On average, about 1000 agglomeration, regional, long-distance national and international trains pass through it daily.
