The 19.4-kilometre section of the S8 expressway being built by Budimex is part of a route that will connect the Wrocław, Łódź, Warsaw and Białystok agglomerations in the future.
The work is carried out in a two-shift system, and if the technology requires it – around the clock. 544 people work on the construction site – 53 representatives of the engineering staff, 21 foremen, 76 construction equipment operators, 180 drivers and 214 manual workers.
The work is carried out using 200 hardware units.
On the section under construction, the construction of embankments, stabilization of the subsoil, and strengthening of the ground with geosynthetic mattresses are underway. Geosynthetic mattresses are laid on the ground reinforced with concrete and gravel and concrete columns. A frost-resistant layer, a foundation of cement-stabilized aggregate, a substructure of mechanically stabilized crushed aggregate and a substructure of lean concrete are made. On one carriageway of the S-8 expressway, a 0.5 km long test section of concrete pavement was made (in the area of Róża).
The progress of road works has reached the level of 47 percent.
The progress of works is also visible on bridge structures. Foundation works in the field of large-diameter piles have been completed. The concreting of strip foundations, bodies and columns of bridge and viaduct supports is coming to an end. Wherever possible, load-bearing structures of objects are made. Along with the progressing construction of embankments, the abutments of bridge structures, animal crossings and culverts are being backfilled. The progress level of works on bridge structures is currently 42 percent.
Along the section under construction, rainwater drainage and water supply networks are being built. The concreting of the slopes and the bottom of the retention reservoirs is underway. Power and telecommunications networks are being rebuilt, and the construction of a lighting system has begun in the town of Modlica. The above-mentioned industry robots are 28 percent advanced.
The works will be completed on 5 January 2014.
Contract with the Łódź branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways for the construction of the 8. of the section of the S8 expressway (Róża – Wrocław junction), with a net value of PLN 689.2 million, was signed on 5 October 2011.
As part of the contract, Budimex will build a 19.4-kilometre section of the S8 expressway and two road junctions – “Pabianice” and “Rzgów”.
