For over 12 years, Budimex has been supporting students who want to start a career in the construction industry, m.in. through paid internships as part of the Budimex Academy programme. In June this year. Its next edition has ended. What has the Polish leader of the construction market prepared for its apprentices this time?
In addition to the opportunity to gain valuable experience in construction, Budimex offers students remuneration for their internships. All interns also receive a private medical package, support from a supervisor, the opportunity to meet with the board, training in Personal branding and Excel and numerous competitions.
In addition, this year, as part of the Budimex Academy programme, an engaging, onboarding campaign was created entitled “I recommend Gram”. For three weeks, the trainees were given tasks on a special platform, such as taking a photo on a given topic or answering a question related to construction. In addition, they could recommend their friends for the indicated positions. Points were awarded for completed tasks – those who collected the largest number of them received cash prizes and gadgets.
Over the course of the entire project, Budimex received over 30 CVs. Every year, more than 250 apprentices appear on board the company, of which approx. 30% are later hired.
– In the construction industry, in addition to theoretical knowledge, practice plays a huge role. Therefore, our goal is to enable young people to learn the specifics of work in the profession while still studying. Thanks to the experience and practical knowledge gained, young people can enter the labour market better prepared. Internships at Budimex last from one month to six months, and during this time the most important thing for us is the student’s development – says Cezary Mączka – Member of the Management Board – Director of Human Resources Management at Budimex SA.
For several years, the recruitment process for internships at Budimex has been supported by the “Budimex CUP” online game. You can play the role of an apprentice and perform various tasks. They are the actual duties performed by interns at Budimex. The game tests soft skills and health and safety awareness. In the second stage, you can also test your technical knowledge of cubature, road and railway construction. The game was created not only for engineers, but also for students of finance and economics. It allows engineers to verify their knowledge before starting work, and for others – to get to know the construction industry and its specifics in detail. The game is positively received in the student community. Users emphasize that it is an interesting experience and allows you to feel the atmosphere of the company.
