On 12 August 2015, the Białystok Branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways announced the selection of Budimex’s bid for the design and construction of the Suwałki bypass. The offer has a net value of PLN 243.5 million.

The Suwałki bypass will be connected to the Augustów bypass, which was put into service last year, which was also built by Budimex. The new road will be 12.8 km long and will have the standard of a dual carriageway expressway (S61, two carriageways with two lanes each). The bypass will bypass the city from the west and north.

The scope of work also includes:

  • construction of missing slip roads at the Suwałki Południe junction,
  • construction of the Suwałki West junction along with the construction and expansion of transverse roads,
  • construction of the slip road of the Suwałki Północ junction,
  • expansion of existing roads and reconstruction of existing communication routes crossing the S61 road under construction,
  • construction of engineering structures along the expressway and viaducts along the reconstructed transverse roads and railway line.

Budimex will have 34 months from the date of signing the contract to implement the investment (winter periods from 15 December to 15 March will not be included in the completion time).
