On 31 December 2015, in accordance with the assumed deadline, Budimex completed the construction of the Municipal Waste Disposal Plant in Białystok. It is an investment thanks to which from over 90 to approx. 12 per cent. the amount of municipal waste that has so far been sent to the municipal landfill in nearby Hryniewicze will decrease. Annually, the new incineration plant will dispose of approx. 120 thousand tons of waste. Waste incineration generates electricity (8.6 MWe), which can power about 16 thousand MWe. and thermal energy (17.5 MWc), which can heat about 875 single-family houses in winter.

The contract covering the design and construction of an incineration plant, worth PLN 332.9 million net, was executed by Budimex (leader, 50.4 per cent of shares) in a consortium with Keppel Seghers Belgium N.V. and Cespa Compania Espanola de Servicios Publicos Auxiliares SA. The contract for the implementation of this investment was signed on 31 August 2012. After the design stage and obtaining the building permit, on September 11, 2013, construction works began. After 27 months, at the end of December 2015, the investment was completed. The investor is Przedsiębiorstwo Usługowo-Handlowo-Produkcyjne “LECH”. The scope of construction works included land development (administrative and office building, roads, parking lots, squares, networks, fences) and the construction of one complete municipal waste incineration line, which consists of:

  • the segment of acceptance and temporary storage of delivered municipal waste,
  • segments of thermal waste treatment through incineration and energy recovery from incinerated waste,
  • the segment of recovered energy processing and discharge to the grid in the form of heat and electricity,
  • flue gas treatment segment,
  • slag processing segment with recovery of ferrous and non-ferrous metals,
  • segment for stabilization and solidification of ashes and solid residues from flue gas treatment.

Energy and industrial construction is one of the strategic directions of Budimex’s development. The company’s goal is to achieve the position of a key EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) company in Poland. In the energy and industrial sector, which has been developed at Budimex for 5 years, approx. 100 people and the company is systematically increasing employment in this area. Currently, Budimex is executing contracts with a total value of over PLN 800 million for PGE, EDF and PGNiG Groups and for public customers. Selected projects of the company in the energy industry are m.in. design and construction of a new peak-load boiler house at the CHP plant in Gdynia, construction of a new power unit in Turów (in consortium with Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Europe GmbH and Tecnicas Reunidas SA), installation and modernisation of flue gas denitrification and desulphurisation installation at the Siekierki CHP Plant (in consortium with Andritz Energy & Environment GmbH).

The company is also planning a broader development in industrial construction. It is interested in the implementation of such investments as the construction of electricity and gas transmission lines, as well as the construction of a water treatment plant, sewage treatment plant and waste sorting plant. Budimex has built waste neutralisation and sorting plants in Ostrów Wielkopolski and Biechów.
