The value of the contract is nearly PLN 43.8 million gross, and the implementation will take 21 months.

The scope of the investment carried out in the “design and build” formula includes the development of full design documentation, obtaining administrative decisions,

“The implementation of this investment requires a combination of experience in conducting construction works with great attention to detail and the historical character of the facility. Our goal is to create a modern public space that will preserve the architectural heritage of the station, and at the same time respond to the modern needs of residents and visitors. This is a project of particular importance for the local community ,” says Tomasz Misiak, Contract Director at Budimex SA.

The building covered by the investment has a built-up area of over 2 thousand m², a total area of about 4 thousand m² and a volume of nearly 23 thousand m³. The facility will also be equipped with modern energy solutions, including a photovoltaic installation, energy storage and a power generator. As part of the investment, the area around the building will also be developed.

After the completion of the works, the historic station will gain new social and educational functions. The facility will include, m.in, the SOWA space – the Discovery, Imagination and Activity Zone, the Senior+ Club, the exhibition and museum part and administrative rooms intended for the needs of the City and Commune Office.

The station, which was a symbol of the development of the region

The history of the railway station in Nowe Skalmierzyce is inextricably linked with the development of the railway at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. In the times referred to as the Iron and Steam Age, the emerging railway infrastructure became one of the most important development impulses for the region.

The breakthrough moment was the launch of the railway line connecting Ostrów with the then border Skalmierzyce. The ceremonial opening of the connection took place on January 31, 1896 with the participation of representatives of the authorities, trade and industry from both sides of the border. The dynamic development of railway traffic resulted in the establishment of a representative railway station in the following years, the official opening of which took place on October 28, 1906. To this day, the building remains one of the most characteristic railway facilities in the region and an important testimony to the history of Polish railways.

For years, Budimex has been implementing projects related to the modernisation of transport infrastructure and the revitalisation of facilities of particular historical and social importance. In recent years, the company has carried out, m.in, the reconstruction of the PKP Railway Station in Grudziądz, the PKP Station in Białystok and the Warszawa Zachodnia station, which was commissioned last year, which is one of the most technically advanced railway stations in the region.
