On Wednesday, May 31, the Frito-Lay factory was officially opened in Środa Śląska with the participation of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. The construction lasted 20 months in a record time. The plant is PepsiCo’s largest investment in Poland so far. The general contractor of the facility was Budimex.

Budimex  was responsible for the construction of the plant with internal installations, including electromechanical works, as well as land development and technical infrastructure.

The entire investment is divided into several stages, its final completion will take place in 2025.

The factory in Środa Śląska will be the most environmentally sustainable PepsiCo plant in Europe and will ultimately employ over 450 people. The facility will produce potato and corn snacks from supplies from Polish farmers.

“During the entire construction period, a total of 5,000 people performed various works here. At the peak of the construction process, more than 1,000 of them were on this site at the same time. Together, we turned the design documentation presented in nearly 8,000 drawings into reality. With the use of over 4 thousand. tons of structural steel, over 2 thousand. tons of reinforcing steel and 38 thousand. cubic meters of concrete, we erected a modern facility with an area of nearly eight football pitches – says Artur Popko, President of the Management Board, CEO of Budimex SA.

The newly built facility is of great importance for the development of the Polish economy and has a direct impact on the life of the local community. In addition to the benefits of creating new jobs, the plant, importantly, will be neutral to the environment. Thus, it will significantly contribute to the development of the region and the creation of favorable living conditions for its inhabitants.

“The investment has the highest ecological parameters. The building has been equipped with a water recovery system, technological heat with heat conversion into cooling and heating. With environmental protection in mind, our own photovoltaics and high-class wastewater treatment plants have also been installed, as well as electric car power points. The plant will achieve climate neutrality by 2035 – emphasized Artur Popko at the opening of the factory.
