During the construction of the tram to Wilanów, compensatory plantings of new trees were carried out – since the beginning of November, Budimex has planted a total of 130 specimens in Mokotów and Wilanów. A total of 1000 animals will be planted as part of this investment. All the others will be completed by the end of the project completion date, i.e. by 2024.

Among the planted tree species there are m.in. Dutch limes, small-leaved limes, plane trees, hornbeams, serrated cherries, field maples and pedunculate oaks. For the first time in the history of the construction of the capital’s tram routes, the so-called formed trees. There will also be trees at tram stops. Mainly specimens are cut in the separating road lane, due to the fact that the construction of the Wilanów Tram also involves the modernization of underground installations: water supply, sewage, heating, telecommunications and energy networks. Some trees colliding with these works, making it impossible to carry them out. The removed pieces are less than 10% of the entire tree stand along the tram line.

As part of the investment, the following works are currently being carried out:

  • works on teletechnical infrastructure – reconstruction and construction of collisions;
  • works in the trackbed – construction of a trough and strengthening the ground for structural layers;
  • construction of lighting – laying casing pipes running transversely under the roadway;
  • construction of traffic lights – laying a sewage system from casing pipes;
  • construction and reconstruction of the gas network – laying gas pipes;
  • Spacerowa: works on teletechnical infrastructure with removal of collisions, reconstruction of the gas network, construction of the KD sewage system, construction of foundations for traction poles , preparatory works before the commencement of the main works – Zajączkowska Substation (removal of collisions);
  • Belwederska: Construction of a rainwater drainage system – KD;
  • Sobieskiego: Earthworks and commencement of concrete works (strip foundations) – Sobieski Substation, demolition of substructure elements;
  • Wilanowska: preparatory works before the commencement of the main works – Wilanowska Substation.

More than 50 units of equipment and more than 200 people are working on the construction site. Budimex is also carrying out works in the winter period.

The current temporary traffic organization has been introduced in the following streets: Puławska, Goworka, Spacerowa, Belwederska and Sobieskiego. As part of the current closures, the reconstruction of the underground utilities network and the construction of a power supply for the overhead contact line are planned. The road system will be rebuilt and a tram track will be built. This year, the construction of three traction substations is planned to begin. At the moment, the assumptions for the project are being developed. After the approval of the project, in accordance with the procedures in force in the city, it will be presented.

The new route will start at the intersection of ul. Puławska and Goworka. The reconstruction will also include the existing section of the tram route from Rakowiecka Street to Unii Lubelskiej Square. The tram will overcome the 22-metre difference in level towards the lower Mokotów district along Goworka and Spacerowa Streets. Then the line will run straight, along Belwederska and Sobieskiego streets, in the direction of Miasteczko Wilanów. The terminal intended for two-way trams will be located at the intersection of Rzeczypospolitej and Branickiego Avenues .

Two branches are planned for the route. The first of them will run along Gagarina Street up to Czerniakowska Street – it is a separate investment carried out by Warsaw Trams and the Municipal Water and Sewage Company. On this section, trams will end at the terminal for two-way trams. The new route means a lot of time savings for those residents of Wilanów who commute to the center of Warsaw. The tram ride from this district to the Centrum metro station will take about 30 minutes.

During the construction of the tram route to Wilanów, green track technology will be used. The new track will be planted with sedum – a plant that is resistant to higher temperatures and does not require watering. The total length of the green tracks on the route to Wilanów will exceed 10 km.

The construction of the tram route is part of a project co-financed by the European Union under the OPI&E 2014-2020. It also includes the purchase of 50 new low-floor trams, the construction of a depot in Annopol and the installation of passenger information boards at stops. The official name of the project is: Construction of a tram route to Wilanów along with the purchase of rolling stock and accompanying infrastructure. Its total cost is PLN 1 billion 190 million, with EU funding of PLN 555 million.
