Budimex has signed a contract with the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways in Kraków for the construction of the Zabierzów bypass in the “build” formula along national road No. 79. On behalf of the general contractor, the contract was signed by Maciej Lorenc – Regional Director of the Budimex Infrastructure Construction Division.

The investment includes the continuation of the design and construction of the bypass of Zabierzów on DK 79 (on the northern side), GP class with a length of 10.3 km, which bypasses built-up areas, and at the same time serves the adjacent areas through collector roads and 3 intersections (in Zabierzów, Bolechowice and Rudawa).

“I would like to thank Budimex for preparing the offer. An experienced contractor, the largest tax payer among construction companies, with its own equipment and people,” said Andrzej Adamczyk, Minister of Infrastructure, during the signing of the contract.

Budimex will start work immediately after signing the contract.  “Preparatory work for construction on site will begin in August this year. We will do everything, as we do on all our construction sites, to complete the investment on time and reduce all necessary difficulties for residents and drivers to a minimum,” said Artur Popko, President of Budimex, during the signing of the contract.

The following works will be carried out as part of the investment: construction of the road system – a new track of DK79 with accompanying roads, construction of engineering structures (317 m long tunnel, bridges, viaducts, animal crossings), reconstruction of the infrastructure of the utilities network: energy, telecommunications and water-sewage and gas networks, construction of drainage and road lighting, construction of a service duct and SRZ equipment, construction of road safety elements, etc.

“The investment is demanding in terms of engineering – with a large number of bridges and viaducts. Some of the works will also be carried out in the vicinity of car traffic. A special section will be a tunnel of over 300 metres” – says Maciej Lorenc – Budimex Regional Director responsible for the implementation of the investment.

On the bypass under construction, apart from the tunnel, four bridges, seven viaducts and a footbridge at Kasztanowa Street will also be built. The infrastructure, including energy and telecommunications, as well as water, sewage and gas networks, will be rebuilt. Drainage, retention reservoirs, animal crossings, acoustic screens and road lighting will be built.

The gross value of the contract is almost PLN 676 million (PLN 549 million net). The contractor has 37 months to build the bypass, not counting the winter breaks lasting from 16 December to 15 March. The planned completion date is August 2027.

The warranty period for the main works will be 10 years, and for bridges, tunnels and structures shaping access roads to the tunnel up to 15 years.

This is another investment carried out by Budimex in the Małopolskie Voivodeship. In 2022, Budimex completed the construction of the Łagiewnicka Route in Kraków for the Kraków City Hall and the E30 Trzebinia-Krzeszowice section of the main railway line between the capital of Małopolska and Katowice.
