From Sunday, February 14, the next extended stage of works requires changes to the access to the Warszawa Zachodnia station from Wola (Tunelowa Street). Communication from Aleje Jerozolimskie does not change. Train traffic at the station is maintained. The scope of information for travellers is increased. The reconstruction of Warszawa Zachodnia will provide better travel and passenger service opportunities at one of the capital’s largest stations.
Works at the Warszawa Zachodnia station are carried out around the clock, also in winter conditions. The m.in has already been done. demolition of unnecessary buildings. The old lighting was dismantled. Underground installations were relocated to avoid collisions during the works. On the next platforms, after securing the area and changing the traffic organization, the structure of the footbridge is being built – a new passage over the platforms. A technological passage between platforms No. 2 and No. 7. You can see the work on the foundation piles. The works also include the construction of a tunnel, a multifunctional building and a station hall. A temporary access to the platform is being prepared 8. The main contractor Budimex SA informs that 70 subcontractors and suppliers are currently working on the construction site. 500 people and 200 pieces of equipment participate in the works.
The extended scope of works from the side of Wola, from ul. Tunelowa
A wider scope of work at the station will require changes in communication from the north, ul. Tunelowa. The recommended access to the station will be from Aleje Jerozolimskie. Communication will be facilitated by clear signage and traffic organization plans.
The old building of the Warszawa Zachodnia railway station from the side of ul. Tunelowa. A segment of the future passenger tunnel connecting the new Warszawa Zachodnia with the ring line and the new station hall will be built here. The performance of these works is necessary to build a passage for passengers over the platforms.
After detailed analyses, a safe access route was established. The road from platform No. 7 to platform 8 (ring line) will run along a new track and will be extended by approx. 500 meters to 700 meters. The walking time will take approx. 10 minutes. Access to platforms 1-7 from Wola will take the same route, through platform 7. Compared to the current road, the passage will be longer, and the time to get from Tunelowa Street to platforms 1-7 will take approx. 15 minutes. Due to these changes, the suggested access to platforms 1-7 and 8 (circumferential line) is from Aleje Jerozolimskie.
The current traffic organization to platform 8 is scheduled for the end of works at the Warszawa Zachodnia station. The rebuilt bus terminus on Tunelowa Street will remain in its current location until the end of the works. After the construction of the footbridge, a new passage over the platforms will be built for passengers, connecting the Wola district with Ochota.
Warszawa Zachodnia will change for travellers
The works in Warszawa Zachodnia will adapt the station to comfortable service for passengers of agglomeration and long-distance trains. The platforms will be prepared to serve people with reduced mobility, the m.in is planned. escalators, elevators. There will be better connections to public transport. All platforms will be roofed. Clear signage and a passenger information system will facilitate the use of the railway. An additional platform from the side of ul. Tunelowa will increase the possibility of organizing efficient connections.
Communication in the station area will be facilitated by a footbridge that will connect Wola and Ochota. The underground passage will be extended to platform No. 8 (ultimately No. 9) at the ring line and higher, wider and connected to the waiting room and ticket office space. The track system will be comprehensively rebuilt. Thanks to modern systems, rail traffic management will be more efficient.
On average, about 1000 agglomeration, regional, long-distance national and international trains pass through the station every day.
The works at the Warszawa Zachodnia station are one of the largest investments of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. for over PLN 1.9 billion net. Implemented as part of the OPI&E 5.1-13 project entitled: “Works on the cross-city line in Warsaw on the section Warszawa Wschodnia – Warszawa Zachodnia”. The completion of the investment is planned for 2023.
